Add in the university facilities, and I have to wonder where is the room left for all this co-op collaborative innovation work that the TMC3 is supposed to support? Kind of seems like they're not building this big enough.. Does 1.5 million sq ft incorporate all buildings or just those reserved for the colleges? If I recall, they were going to leave open spots for industry players... Here's an older article that references "up to 5 million sq ft" of development: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/Houston-Medical-Center-redesigns-massive-TMC3-13809669.php
Popular Post roxanne
I work in 1MC and for all of last week, the brown lots have been pretty much empty. Any normal time, these lots are at full capacity. I’m thinking they already started making people park at Smithland. Anyway, my desk is on the side of 1MC that is facing the brown lots, so I will have a very good vantage point for when they start construction. Can’t wait! This picture is from the sky walk around 4pm. I’ll get a picture from my desk this coming week.

Popular Post Highrise Tower
TMC issued a RFI for a communications infrastructure plan called TMC Connected. Within the RFI there is an Elkus Manfredi TMC3 Telecom Site Plan. https://www.tmc.edu/news/2020/06/texas-medical-center-issues-connectivity-request-for-information-rfi/ The Elkus Manfredi site plan has a project address of 1885 Old Spanish Trail. Lux
https://www.hines.com/news/hines-and-2ml-real-estate-interests-to-build-levit-green Synergism or competition with TMC3? The CHRON references to Kendall Square in Cambridge, Mass. and Mission Bay in San Francisco are lifted directly from the TMC3 playbook. An amalgam of life science clusters from 288 to the TMC would be a beautiful thing, and it’s going to take massive CRE Life Sciences investments, in addition to TMC3, for Houston to rise by leaps and bounds in the U.S. Life Science cluster rankings (JLL, CBRE, etc.). Thoughts? Edited June 16, 2020 by Lux
Popular Post texan
The Texas A&M University System capital plan has been updated to include their contribution to TMC3 ($100,000,000 building) with a proposed start date of the current fiscal year (ends in August, I believe). This is in addition to the $18,000,000 approved back earlier this year. https://assets.system.tamus.edu/files/treasury/pdf/FY20/Quarterly_Updates_to_FY2020-FY2024_CapitalPlan_3rdQtr.pdf

zaphod
That's one seriously fancy-pants hotel. 354 residential and 410 hotel rooms, how tall is this going to be? Buildings with that many residential units seem to end up at least 30-40 stories and then with the hotel rooms...

Found a couple permits going over the core buildings. Wonder if that has anything to do with the lot block off. Both permits are carbon copies of each other, maybe they're going through each parcel of the helix? Now going back to @Highrise Tower post, it's basically the same thing with with the exception of newer date, permit type, and buyer/address. Also does anybody know what these permit types mean? for example the AM and PX ones. Good chance ground breaking is soon, those barriers look oddly ground breaking like.

Lux
It appears that Texas A&M Board of Regents will be discussing their $109M TMC3 Biomedical Research Building, the nearly complete $87M En/Health Building renovation and the $401M private development TAMU Health Plaza at the upcoming August 20, 2020 meeting (see p250). We’ll learn more during the 4:45p CT session (live stream and agenda below). I’ll gladly share any information that I can gather on the aforementioned projects from attending the standing/special committee reports presentations. https://www.tamus.edu/regents/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2020/08/BOR-SCHEDULE-2020-08-20-rev-8-13-3.pdf https://tamus.mediasite.com/Mediasite/Play/b81c91983b4745a1b74abb48997c7fce1d Edited August 20, 2020 by Lux 6
Popular Post Lux
There was no Texas A&M Board of Regents open forum discussion on the planned Texas A&M TMC3 Biomedical Research Building. However, it appears to still be a part of the FY 2021-2025 Capital Plan (PUF debt). I have shared exciting news on the Texas A&M Innovation Plaza $401M public-private partnership groundbreaking under that HAIF topic — hint: it’s next week! My guess is it will break ground after the next legislative session. Texas A&M Health, MD Anderson, and UT Health Houston all have requested specific funding for it in the form of TRBs in their legislative appropriations requests so they're probably strategically stalling the project. If they don't get the funding from the state, it will likely still go forward, it will just be funded from the Permanent University Fund instead. Also of note is that Baylor COM is no longer listed as a founding institution, I guess they are focusing on the McNair campus. https://assets.system.tamus.edu/files/budgets-acct/pdf/lars/FY22-FY23/TAMHSC.pdf https://www.utsystem.edu/sites/default/files/documents/ut-system-reports/2020/ut-system-legislative-appropriations-requests-ut-m-d-anderson-cancer-center/university-of-texas-m-d-anderson-cancer-center-lar-october-2020.pdf 8
