j_cuevas713
This is seriously one of the best urban projects along with Post HTX. The way the city has better utilized the bayous and created a bicycle highway across the entire city has allowed for denser, smarter, cleaner development. I can’t wait to see the first developments that take advantage of the new TOD ordinance. Edited August 24, 2020 by j_cuevas713
Ross
I was looking at some stuff on Google Earth this weekend, and noticed in the historical aerials that this area had what looks like apartments in the 1953 pictures. Unfortunately, the city directories I can find online don't have the street by street pages, so I wasn't able to confirm what the buildings were.

Popular Post hindesky
The eastern most building's lower portion is a parking garage. The south part of the next building is also. I would like to see a little more protection for those poles supporting the roof in case of a negligent driver.
Popular Post texan
I love the pedestrian alleyways this project has. It reminds me quite a bit of some of the older developments in Tempe and Scottsdale, Arizona. Most of the buildings are only one or two stories but they're packed in very closely with patios and alleyways like this to make them enjoyable during the entire year. I wish that is something we would see more here when low rise buildings are built.

j_cuevas713
Great design! Haven’t been able to say that often enough. This lays nicely next to the trail and is capable of being a serious catalyst for more development along Shepherd. That area is already blowing up. This is just beautiful Houston walkability. Popular Post hindesky
Japanese Chain Rakkan Ramen Has Set Its Sights on Houston The first of multiple locations of the veggie-based ramen chain is set to arrive on Shepherd Drive in 2021 by Amy McCarthy Sep 22, 2020, 9:00am CDT Rakkan Ramen, a Japanese chain known for its vegetable-based broths, will open its doors in Houston next year. Permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicate that Rakkan will occupy a 1,681 square foot space at 600 North Shepherd Drive, Suite 515, and construction is set to begin early next year. It’s possibly the first of multiple Rakkan Ramen outposts in the works — last year, the chain announced via its website that it would open as many as five locations in Houston. Rakkan Ramen made its debut in the U.S. market in Los Angeles in 2017, when it opened an outpost in the city’s Little Tokyo neighborhood. Outposts in Redondo Beach and Santa Monica followed. According to Eater LA, the shop is known for its flavorful “umami” vegetarian broths, with options like soy sauce, miso, and tomato on the menu. There’s also the pearl ramen, served with a broth that’s made with “specialized Japanese rock salt” and white soy sauce. Construction on Rakkan’s first Houston location is set to be completed in March 2021. Stay tuned for more details on the chain’s opening date and additional locations. https://houston.eater.com/2020/9/22/21450346/rakkan-ramen-opening-houston-shepherd-drive
j_cuevas713
Even in this pandemic, the city is booming. This along with Hanover, East River, and Regent Square will really push Houston over the top in terms of walkable neighborhoods. There’s already so much dedicated infrastructure that’s been developed over the years, from the bike lanes to new sidewalks and the new TOD ordinance. Our city is going to get very dense, very quick. I can only image what the Innovation District will look like in 5 years. 👀
