I believe the red portion is coated glass, not a curtain wall.

Also, I have been told the developer does not own the land the proposal will occupy.

Another rendering:

I'm not crazy about the red glass, but I love the narrow slab proportions. Not many thin buildings like this get built nowadays - presumably they are not particularly economic - but still the proportions are classic.

Dallas' KDC to begin new $200 million mixed-use development near Love Field

Candace Carlisle
February 23, 2016

The new walkable mixed-use development will sit in close proximity to two of North Texas' biggest economic engines, which are Dallas Love Field and the Medical District, said Bill Guthrey, a senior vice president at KDC.

Initially, KDC plans to build a new 150,000-square-foot office building with structured parking on a 37-acre tract at 2345 W. Mockingbird Lane between Maple Avenue and Forest Park Road.

The developer also plans to develop two Starwood hotels, 368 luxury apartment homes and 65,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space lining Mockingbird Lane as part of the initial project.

KDC officials said a later phase will include 750 apartments.

Los Angeles-based Highridge Partners and its affiliates are developing the apartments and retail buildings, which are expected to be complete by mid-2017.

New concept in Uptown puts Dallas in line with major national food trend

Teresa Gubbins

Uptown-Urban-Market-rendering_105709.jpg

Always on board with hot new trends, Dallas is about to get the latest buzzy concept in dining: a food hall. Coming in spring 2016 to Uptown Dallas, Uptown Urban Market will go into the former Sfuzzi space at the Gables Villa Rosa on Cedar Springs Road.

Founders are Mark Brezinski and Jonathan Tobolowsky, who hope to re-create the spirit of food halls such as Chelsea Market in New York or the Public Market in Milwaukee.

"Each stall will specialize in a specific food offering, from pizza to tacos to grab-and-go sushi and great salads," he says. "There will also be a coffee shop, a fresh juice counter, and even a speakeasy-type bar."

They envision it as an all-day "beehive," open in the morning with coffee and breakfast tacos, at lunch for gatherings and lunch meetings, and in the afternoon for a glass of wine. There will be delivery options too.

"We want to offer the great talent in Dallas an opportunity to expand their brands, experiment with cutting-edge offerings, and consider this a place to test high-quality products in an area that is dense with residences and offices," Brezinski says.

That's right Rowdy, it's best for you to just ignore my posts. But there might be somebody else at HAIF that might consider them at least as relevant as a plan to build a new food court in uptown or a 4 story office building near the DFW airport (not my posts).

Maybe you just don't like what the vast majority of Dallas really looks like. Uptown/Downtown Dallas is about 2 square miles. There are 10,000 more square miles of urban development that exist in DFW whether you like it or not.

Take a deep breath and try not to be an antagonistic douchebag.  If you can't play nice on HAIF, then GTFO.

Another major business tenant is shopping for space in a new Uptown office tower.

Commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield is looking to lease two floors in the new McKinney & Olive tower under construction just north of Klyde Warren Park.

Combining the two offices will take about 40,000 square feet of space, according to Cushman & Wakefield execs.

Signed tenants in the building so far include law firms Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP and law firm Sidley Austin LLP, consulting firm McKinsey & Co. and advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi.

According to the article, nobody has landed anything yet.  The article (and even the article's headline) clearly say C&W is eyeing and shopping and looking.

Apartments in the works for Dallas’ historic Ambassador Hotel south of downtown

Steve Brown
March 1, 2016

The historic Ambassador Hotel just south of downtown opened in 1905. It’s Dallas’ oldest surviving hotel building.

“We had a number of boutique hotels approach us that were interesting and cool but we felt lofts would be a better fit,” he said.

“We should be close to starting construction at mid year.”

Lake said there are plans for a ground floor restaurant in the 6-story hotel.

“We will have a rooftop bar with a skyline view.”

Bishop Arts developer plans art garden, opens pop-up gallery

Rachel Stone
March 1, 2016

art-garden-map.jpg

The developer on Monday asked the Oak Cliff Gateway TIF District board for a change in the first phase of development: An increase in retail space, from 20,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet; and a reduction in apartment space, form 180,000 square feet to 140,000 square feet. The board approved it.

The company, owned by Farrokh Nazerian, also pitched to the board its planned art garden. Nazerian has hired a full-time metal artist, Manuel Sarmiento of Oak Cliff, to create all the details for the development — benches, signs, light fixtures, trash cans and the like.

Sarmiento also is developing sculptures for the project, and Nazerian rented a warehouse on Zang at Seventh to house a temporary art gallery. Several local artists — Carlyn Ray, Christopher Bingham, Meagan Cope, Ryan Rankin and Travis Haas — are creating and showing work at the gallery, Bishop Arts Gallery, which is open to the public.

The idea is to foster an arts community here. Putting the “art” back into “arts district,” if you will.

Buildings in the planned development could open as soon as next year. An official groundbreaking ceremony and gallery opening are planned for March 9.
