Hermann Park At 6100 Hermann Park Dr.

Recommended Posts

Dog Park, work hasn't even started yet but I think it's because Centerpoint or a contractor for them is standing up and stringing new high voltage electrical towers. That is what you see in the background.

Need to update the sign.

I reallllly hope that concrete on the launch pad is covered by something spongey and soft because yikes, that is going to suck otherwise.

Its nice that they are already replanting trees, that's a good sign. I just can't shake how much the length of time is bothering me when compared to all the improvements they recently made at Memorial Park. Early 2024 doesn't even look possible based on those pics. That area has been closed a long time already.

Relax.  They only started on this in April of last year.

^^ Why wouldn't they!?  These are professionals doing this.  So, trust that they will make good and informed decisions.  Also, probably doesn't make sense to pay overtime to get a park done early.   Remember reading the same type of concerns when the Memorial Park tunnels were under construction and some contributors here were hoping that the designers there thought about details like, protecting pedestrians from falling onto the roadway from above.

I have a suggestion that some may agree to, others of course will not. There are several acres of Hermann Park land south of the zoo across Cambridge (McGregor, Outer Belt) that is really unused, except by Ben Taub emergency room smokers, and an old log cabin. The "Pioneer" cabin can be moved into the park somewhere, or to another location. The smokers can smoke in the middle of the street for all I care. The land sits idle, as a buffer between the Medical Center and the park. Why not let parking garages be the buffer. The garages could be connected to the park with wide pedestrian bridges over Cambridge. (The only problem would be keeping medical center employees from parking there during the day..........or maybe not)

Funny you say that, because according to the Hermann Park master plan they plan on putting a 600 spot parking garage on the corner of Cambridge and Braeswood with a pedestrian overpass over on the zoo side of Hermann Park Dr and Cambridge intersection.  https://www.hermannpark.org/media/uploads/hermann_park_mvva_master_plan_executive_summary_spread_(compressed)-compressed.pdf

"The conservancy is gearing up to conclude the first phase of its ambitious plan to revitalize the park, which includes renovating a 26-acre corner adjacent to the Memorial Hermann Hospital called the Commons. This extensive development, stretching from the Houston Zoo to Cambridge Street, will introduce a host of accessible and sustainable amenities designed to cater to visitors of all backgrounds and abilities.

Among the highlights of this project are plans for exciting play areas for children, including a towering 40-foot rocket ship slide, a snake den for adventurous explorers, a toad hollow for nature enthusiasts, and a whimsical carousel that promises to bring joy to visitors of all ages. Most of the children’s spaces are wheelchair accessible, and they also account for those with neurological disabilities by providing sensory experiences for them."
