8008 Colgate Street, Glenbrook Valley, Houston, Texas 77061

This 1960's modern house is perched high on a .8 acre sloping site enjoying sweeping views of Sims Bayou which traces its western property edge.  A thorough renovation of the 5,800+ square foot house included replacement of much of the wood framing, installation of triple paned windows, spray insulation, media and smart-wired electronic equipment and Thermador appliances.  The original curved steel staircase is the focal point of the entry and living areas.  There are four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two half baths plus additional areas opening to the patios overlooking the bayou.

Glenbrook Valley is Houston's largest contiguous historic district and the state's first and largest post WWII historic district.  It was recently proclaimed a top pick by This Old House magazine, and named one of the hot neighborhoods of 2014 by Houstonia magazine.

House not listed on HAR.
Price $525,000

5222 Sleepy Creek Drive, Meadowcreek Village, Houston, Texas 77017

This mid-century modern house includes character and architectural details. The entry has double front doors and a natural flagstone planter. Gracious formals with folding doors open to join the huge den with a vaulted wood beamed ceiling. A brick mock- fireplace divider wall partially screens the kitchen and breakfast area.  Additional features include a private study, detached bonus space, vintage tile master bath with dual dressing areas and vanities, multiple closets and unique built-ins.

Developed by builder Robert Clemmons, who also built in Memorial and Meyerland, Meadowcreek Village is a naturally-wooded enclave of custom houses located east of IH-45 and Glenbrook Valley.  Development began in 1950 and proceeded thoughtfully through the 1970's and included modern houses by Mackie and Kamrath, Clovis Heimsath, Betty Jo Jones, Lucian Hood, Howard Weisenbaker and other architects.  The active civic club enforces the deed restrictions and encourages neighborhood improvement.

5443 Whispering Creek Drive, Meadowcreek Village, Houston, Texas 77017

This is a well built early 1960's mid-century modern/vintage contemporary house tucked away on a secluded street on a large bayou lot shaded by mature oak trees.  It features great original details including light fixtures, wood beams, wood paneling, built-in planter and tile baths.  The open floor plan lives larger than the actual square footage as full length windows bring in abundant natural light. The private backyard has broad views of the natural bayou setting.
