tomv 35
So how was the meeting? Is everybody waiting till Monday to file a report on "company time"? Or maybe nobody showed up. Perhaps it's better just to remain anonymous. What's nice about these online forums is that everybody is more or less equal and you can feel comfortable expressing your opinion. If you don't enjoy confrontation, then you don't even have to respond to something if you don't want to.That being said, if there is another meeting, maybe it should be somewhere that offers wifi access, preferably free. ricco67 448
Okay guys, i'm pondering an informal get together would be fun and would like to get a bit if info. The bad news for the subburbanites, it's that it's going to be inside the loop just to be fair to everyone coming from different parts of the city, unless I get a HEAVY response from a particular region.I'm thinking the following:Mings on Montrose888 On WinklerChachos on WesthiemerMaybe bar downtown like either the Last Carafe' or Slainte's downtown. But I'm open to other suggestions in which they will have enough room with our ability to spot each other fairly easily. If that fails, a random Walmart Parking lot and a beer cooler. We can hash it out once we get responses on here. Once we get an initial meeting, we might be able to select some place that will cater to us a bit more exclusively. Edited July 21, 2006 by ricco67

bachanon 442
i like la carafe, but i don't think it would be an enjoyable place to visit with a party of more than 4 or 6 people.some of the vietnamese restaurants in midtown are great for informal gatherings, especially in mid afternoon. also, for a smaller group, a lounge like zimm's or prive have comfortable areas to kick back and visit. also, scott gertner or "wyattearp" might like to facilitate a gathering for us, being that they have establishments many of us are interested in or concerned about. native_Houstonian 64
Ricco,Thanks for getting this started! We had a good turnout (about 15 if I remember) when we had our gathering in May at Berryhills in the Heights. I've been wanting to do another one, so thanks for taking the initiative!I think a Friday or Saturday evening would be best. And, if you're going to do a dinner, someplace where they will do separate checks or you can pay at a counter would be easiest. Anyway, if you set it up, I'll be there, and I know I can get a few others to tag along. If you need any help with anything, let me know! ricco67 448
Truth be told, I don't really know what else is needed except to show up and make a table ready and throw some RSVP's out there. Now if you want me to get a BAR ready..I know of a couple of places I can do that easily. ssullivan 16
I'm all for it as long as it's on the weekend. Weeknights are almost impossible for me since I'm almost never in Houston Monday-Thursday. I really wanted to make it to the last gathering back in the spring, but had a conflict. So hopefully this time it will work out.
2112 31
It was fun last time and would love to do more of these.I think central locations are best, that way anyone in the outer parts of the area only has to get to the central houston area...I'm sure someone off of 290 would not want to drive all the way to Southeast Houston, etc. But driving to Downtown/Montrose/Heights is only a half-city trek at worst-case for anyone. I kinda' like the idea of trying out new places. But sometimes it is convenient to have a set place as our "HAIF-hangout" also. Not sure really which is better, as they both have merit. We should also try to avoid the rush-hour too: A 6:00pm time frame means some people are right in the middle of the 5:00pm Friday rush hour! Of course this is a non-issue on a Saturday. Either way, it will be fun. Edited July 17, 2006 by 2112

native_Houstonian 64
Well, it looks like "Weekend Dinner" got the most votes, so I would say a Saturday night dinner. I am not familiar with all of the places mentioned above, but anything that is centrally located will work. I would suggest someplace that will allow separate checks or where you can order/pay at the counter. Maybe Jax Grill? Mission Burrito? Niko Niko's? Les Girval's Sandwich or Kaldi Sandwich, if they are open for dinner?

ricco67 448
The seperate checks shouldn't be an issue. Just pay a little more what you ordered and the rest will be "Tip"We need someplace good, but an area where we can easily spot eachother. NikoNiko's is nice, but you can get lost in there quickly unless we ALL meet outside, which isn't appealing.I could make an arrangement with shanghai river and book the conference room. 2112 31
There's a cute little taco truck on Harrisburg just east of Lockwood, right next to the "El Pozo" car wash and "washateria" (I always liked that word). They were able to get thier licence re-issued again, and the food is quite good. And it is also very convenient because there is a Metro bus stop right next door, with direct connections to many of the Canal and Navigation Blvd. destinations. Granted, you sometimes have to be careful with these types of places I'm sure. But this one "seems" to be ok. Interested?Anyone?

I think that would be fair to the majority of the people on here.Well most places that are resteraunts/cafes have a bar, and there is not a problem... MarthaG 2
i would go but i think i am the youngest dude here....would feel a little uncomfortableI think you should come anyway. At the last mixer the age group was varied. The more the merrier.So...let's "get off the pot" and make a decision. If the 29th is not good.. then Aug. 5th. I too would prefer counter service. History shows that if everyone is on one tab, then the last person to leave usually gets left paying more than their fair share. But if you guys (and gals) are OK with that possibility, then I'm game.Little Papasito's on Kirby & Richmond sounds great.... Can we make a decision?

Highway6 380
Ricco. You started this... I think you should pick a place, and that's that. You've had enough responses to determine what part of town most people would prefer and what type of restaurant.Once you have decided.. start a new poll thread with the decided location in the subject ( to let people know where has bene settled) .. the new poll will determine the day most likely to get the most people. Then give that new poll ( with much less options ) a few days then make a decision already. Just seems, if we keep going the way we are, nothing will get decided anytime soon... and since this was your great idea, it's on you to make a timely decision Edited July 24, 2006 by Highway6
