Muralpainter
I have contacted the manager at the Westland Bunker Data Center who has agreed to schedule a tour.http://www.westlandbunker.com/ Would anyone be interested if I would setup a HAIF tour group of the bunker? Montrose1100
"An isolated underground fortress designed to withstand direct nuclear attack has become the perfect home for mission critical IT and business operations." Direct hit? I would like to see this thing.
Ross
I was in that bunker before it was opened, back when the paranoid Taiwanese guy built it in the early 80's. They had to drain the lake to change some instrumentation probes that had been incorrectly installed. It had a jail, an arms room, and was pretty large for an underground facility. I don't think it would have survived a direct hit, but was strong enough and deep enough to survive nearby hits. The concrete used in the surface pagodas was super hard. There was a pile of it that hardened too quickly, and it took several days to jackhammer out after the truck dumped it. Too bad we didn't have small digital cameras back then... brhaltx
I toured it when the data center was just getting started. The jail cells and operating room were still there. It had several large diesel tanks, at least two generators, two wells, and an escape tunnel that came out in a gully. There were machine gun nests in the pagodas. The office building was just as well built; heavy concrete and bullet proof glass.
