HAIFers' living locations - past, present & future

I know this will be a heavily skewed poll in some senses, but I'm more curious about where people grew up at and where they do now.

 

The harder question to poll is why. Answer that here.

After I graduate from college in another year or so, I want to move out of College Station and into a larger city, like Houston, where I can find a job. That doesn't mean "Inner Loop townhome" or even necessarily Houston itself, though.

Can I assume that living inside the Loop counts as urban, even though it's really a suburban area in appearance, and was build as a suburb in the 50's?

If I'm in a neighborhood inside the Loop, but there are horses kept on lots throughout the subdivision, and I've seen cowboys riding horses down the street to the neighborhood basketball courts, should I consider myself in an urban, suburban or rural neighborhood? :-)

Grew up in Spring and after going to school in Abilene moved into Houston proper. Don't ever want to move to the suburbs.

Round Rock when it was tiny then an inner looper where I hope to never leave.

Grew up in Cypress, now can walk to Reliant Stadium from my house. The burbs were nice back in the 80's and 90's, but now there is just too much traffic, increased crime, and poorer quality homes. Plus, the inner loop is a zillion times better now than what it was back then. Never planning to leave the city.

It's a suburban town, I would say yes.

Grew up in rural Newton County(although all family is from Houston.) Live off Death Valley now.

Yeah, I need specifics on suburban - I'm currently outer loop near Hobby which, back in the day, would have been exurban. These days, not so much - where does your suburban start? Outside 610? Outside 8? Any other criteria?

I currently live in the Greenway Plaza area. I grew up in the Tomball/Magnolia area. I like the convenience of living inside 610; however, I also understand the draw of the suburbs. I am not sure what my plans are in the future. I could end up in some mountain town in Montana. Who knows?

Born and raised in Michigan....moved to Houston in the late 90s....lived out on Barker Cypress (hated it)....then:  Montrose -> Montrose -> Heights -> Midtown -> EaDo

I live in a town home in Spring Branch and hcad calls it suburban. I guess Houston has very true urban places, but does has very dense suburban areas.

Grew up in the suburbs of a wee little town.  At the moment I live in the suburbs for job purposes, but when the opportunity presents itself I'll be inside the loop again.

So is a small bungalow on a 50 x 100 lot in a "streetcar suburb" of the 20s inside the Loop considered suburban or urban?

Grew up in a small town on the outer edge of the Houston Metro area.  Went to school and lived inside the Loop for 8.5 years, moved closer to work and now live in the suburbs again.  Do I like it?  Part of it.  The costs of living in the burbs are much lower than living in an urban area.  Plus my job is not inside the loop, nor is my wifes, so moving back into the loop would be counter productive and equate to a VERY long commute.  I do wish there was more diversity of food/shopping etc where I live.  Perhaps in time as more people move to this area that will come?  Hopefully

Grew up in Bellaire.  Went to UH.  Lived in the Third that whole time.  Have lived in Midtown or off of Washington since.

When I was in Houston, I lived in the apartment complex on Oak Court in Midtown, and later in the Dakota Lofts downtown.

Grew up in the "suburbs" of a major world city, and have lived in many other locations. Would always choose the suburbs if possible.
