He wanted to run in 2009, but didn't.

The Houston Chronicle reporting today that the lawsuit, filed by former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell (D-TX) to stop State Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-Houston)'s fundraising efforts was rejected by the Ethics Commission.

McVey jumps in the Houston Mayoral campaign. However, will McVey have any impact to make a difference?

Mayoral candidate Marty McVey was on Houston Newsmakers yesterday, detailing his plans for the Bayou City & his campaign, etc.,

Interesting to see how McVey can get attention, if any at all from the crowded pack.

If he just changed two letters in his last name, I'd bet he could gain a significant margin just on name recognition.

Houston City Councilman District G Oliver Pennington [R] drops out of the mayoral campaign, citing his wife's health. Pennington's withdrawal will be a big boost for Costello & King.

Reaction of Pennington dropping out ?

I'm eyeing Stephen Costello at the moment.  As lefty as I am, he's built a solid resume as a moderate Republican, and has been a true force of action on City Council.

Well Totheskies, it's looking like the ReBuild Houston program (streets & drainage) might hurt Costello, who's advocated for it.

http://blog.chron.com/kuffsworld/2015/06/rebuild-houston-and-the-mayors-race/

According to Rice University political scientist Bob Stein, "The timing of this couldn't be worse for Costello,", adding that former Kemah Mayor Bill King [R] now has a window opening to break through as local Republicans have now begun to coalesce around King, who's staunchly opposed to the city's controversial streets & drainage program. Now with Houston recovering from severe flooding & the TX Supreme Court ruling against the city in a lawsuit over ReBuild, Costello looks to be hurt among voters as a result!

Looking like the recent ruling from the TX Supreme Court on Houston's controversial HERO will put the 7 candidates for Houston Mayor into taking positions on it:

http://www.chron.com/news/politics/houston/article/Texas-Supreme-Court-sides-with-plaintiffs-in-6403354.php

Mayorial candidate, Ben Hall signed the petition against the ordinance. So he is definitely out for me. These kind of human rights protections should never be up to a public referendum. It's absurd and frankly if this ordinance fails, as my gut instinct tells me it will, Houston and Texas will only look like more of a national embarrassment.

Former Kemah Mayor William King [R] takes a stand on the controversial HERO ordinance, he feels it NEVER should've been approved: maybe courting the Tea Party voters with this stand ?

Do not do list:

1. Vote for Bill King

Anyway, if he wants to court Tea Baggers he needs to insult Mexicans and war heroes.

This development on the Harris County jail death incident could be bad for Garcia in the Houston Mayoral campaign:

Hall is hoping to aggressively court conservative voters due to his staunch opposition to HERO ordinance:

She's tan, rested, and ready: Kathy for May...um, Rail Czar:

Apparently, the GLBT caucus is endorsing Turner for Mayor, expect to see those negative TV ads featuring the "Hey, Hey, Hey, Come on in" in reference to the 1991 campaign, where TV stations broadcasted the interview with Turner's special friend.

In 1991 people still thought Louie Welch's "shoot the queers" comment was snicker-worthy.

A 25 year old allegation of same sex canoodling isn't going to get much traction in this city in this century, except maybe among some troglodytes that wouldn't dream of voting for anything other than a straight (or at least somewhat credibly claiming to be straight) old white guy.

Good to know present day troglodytes might have some use. :)

Plus, here's his plan to add more police officers:

Influential African American conservative pastors endorsing Hall for Houston Mayor:

http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/29827626/black-conservative-ministers-give-ben-hall-full-backing-in-mayoral-race

Reaction from anyone of y'all on this endorsement & will it play a factor into Hall possibly pushing into the runoff ?

My reaction is that a bunch of churches need to lose their tax exemptions for being involved in politics. I still don't think Hall has a chance.

My initial reaction is that LGBTs are far more likely to support Black Lives Matter than Mr. Hall and once again, the 1%ers are great at making us all fight each other over stupid stuff.

Bell's string of campaign losses at the ballot box in multiple campaigns, he seems determined to push along:

There's just something about Bell in which voters just don't seem to pull the lever for him on Election Day!

This has probably been posted before, but where do each candidate stand in terms of transit and bike infrastructure?
