nolaboy
Does anyone know if/where Micro Center would be relocating if this is true? From Swamplot: http://swamplot.com/did-micro-center-just-sell-its-houston-location-to-amegy-bank/2014-02-25/ The self-proclaimed “industry insider” behind a new office-space rumor website tells Swamplot that it’s “well-known . . . amongst the tenant/landlord representative crowd” that Amegy Bank has purchased the 4.13-acre site at 1717 West Loop South just north of San Felipe that’s currently home to Houston’s only Micro Center store. The owner and would-be seller of the property, according to county tax records, is the Ohio-based parent company of the 47,800-sq.-ft. computer and electronics store, which has been operating in that location since 1994. There is only one other Micro Center location in Texas. *** “The property, which is just down the street from [Amegy Bank's] current office at Five Post Oak Park,” reports the rumor site, “is the supposed site for Amegy to build their own 10-12 story office tower. Rumblings suggest that this move is the result of a lease renewal disagreement between Amegy and their current landlord Shorenstein.” If the rumor is true, would the computer retailer be looking for another Houston location, or just close up shop here? Swamplot has contacted both Micro Center and Amegy Bank for comment. We’ll add an update if we hear anything back. Dakota79
Say good-bye to all these one story box stores with huge lots in front. Next up, Randall's , Kroger, etc will have apartments above them. Not sure when, but it will happen.

Then if you watched actual story, they'd explain he meant geologically soon, meaning sometime within the next 200 years. IronTiger
If the store or chain is doing badly, it will probably close for good, sadly. It is in a high-value part of town. While unlikely, I wonder how plausible is it if they knocked down the old Foley's at Northwest Mall to build a smaller Micro Center store, using the reduced footprint as much-needed extra parking? MikeRichardson
Micro Center would be committing instant suicide in Houston if they closed that store without an immediate and nearby replacement.
IronTiger
Isn't one of the Randalls in the vicinity closing, like the one at Westheimer and Shepherd, I believe? They could go there! swtsig
Amegy has been in the market for awhile although I assumed they were looking at one of the westcreek sites. They'll team up with one of the big name office developers. I would be a little shocked if they only built 10-12 stories, though.

It wouldn't make sense for them to build their own building, when there a tower looking for a tenant about to be built in in Westcreek. lockmat
Maybe they'll build a tower that resembles an "A?" After all, they are the A bank. Urbannizer
This map shows us where Hines currently has new projects in the works (this location included). The only project we don't know about is the "Confidential Multifamily Development" near 2111 Westheimer. http://issuu.com/rednews/docs/rn_march2014
swtsig
Looks to be near the Richmond/montrose intersection. There are at least 2 and potentially three other projects that I know of that they are actively considering.
bobruss
This does appear to be in that general vicinity, but I cant figure out where around there they would develop. You've got the CVS on the SW corner and all of the buildings on the NE and NW corners of Montrose. I can't think of the name of the developer who has developed all of those 8-10 story buildings around there. Maybe Hansen. The same people who are constructing the new building just west of Yoakum on Richmond.St. Thomas owns pretty much everything else to Montrose and Richmond, unless its the tract east of the Richmont apartments,(Menil holdings), or the SE corner of Montrose and Richmond where the Chase Bank is located. I guess it could be the property on the east side of Yoakum between the CVS and the new building going up there.
Texasota
Both the CVS and the bank are an incredibly poor use of land at that intersection; I wonder under what circumstances either property owner would be willing to sell...

Triton
Meyer declined to say how much the building will cost, and it'll be a few more weeks before Amegy has renderings of what the 350,000 square feet of space will look like, but "it will be a very handsome building," he said. H-Town Man
What about Pickard? ;-) I was under the impression that William Chilton had done more of the buildings in Houston. Could be wrong. Would be great to know who does which, so that we can get a sense of style/personality for each architect.

swtsig
I want to say 20 total - 15 or so office on top of a 5 or 6 story podium garage. There will also be design element on top that will extend the height somewhat.
arche_757
..There will also be design element on top that will extend the height somewhat. I hope its not a giant inflatable gorilla! Those are so tacky! Really though, if there is something added to the top, hopefully it is something that scales nicely to the building. A 20 floor building with a 5 floor architectural element would probably be too bold. I'm also hoping its not a "crown of thorns" like 3333 Allen Parkway has!
