The work represents the newest phase of improvements. A future plan calls for almost doubling the size of the convention space on several blocks just south of the building.

brian0123
I never thought I'd like the GRB so much. The entire project (from Texas shaped pool to reducing lanes in front and adding restaurants) is genius. It actually looks like something tourists would rave about.
Popular Post Urbannizer
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/article/New-sculpture-to-make-a-splash-at-convention-6520406.php The Tucson, Arizona firm Joe O'Connell + Creative Machines has been awarded a $1.34 million commission to create a splashy kinetic sculpture for the George R. Brown (GRB) Convention Center. And we do mean wet. "Fountain of the Americas," an impossible-to-miss attraction between the center and Discovery Green, will have a 24-by-62-foot base pool containing a 25-by-35-foot sculpture made of stainless steel and curved polycarbonate "feathers" designed to mesmerize as they move. A sensor in the fountain will allow visitors to change the lighting by waving their hands. At other times it will cycle through pre-programmed movement effects. At night, the LED lighting will illuminate the translucent wing.
Naviguessor
For the Air Vent Haters, of which I am not, it does look as though a couple of sets, in the center, will be removed. At least, that what is shown on the most recent renderings posted in the HBJ.

brijonmang
More on that art sculpture: http://www.houstoniamag.com/articles/2015/10/8/i-wing-i-in-it I almost went to work for the company that is installing the art feature...it will have touch sensors that control the water flowing/falling from the top. You will see a lot of kids running the length of the sculpture with the water "following" them as they go. It should be pretty awesome.

samagon
Which skybridge? My understanding is there is going to be a bridge across from the hotel to the convention center. As I was riding home last night, I noticed a big lattice work of steel sitting in one lane of Rusk, I assume that is the bridge. Triton
I saw it too. Based on where the support columns are at, it appears this skybridge is closest to Avenida De Las Americas so I would assume to hotel/office area.

Hence my question as to which skybridge. :-) ah, yeah, my bad. I mistakenly associate all of the construction, parking garage, hotel, and office space, as part of the hotel since it all started at roughly the same time, is all the same area, and is all seeming to come together at the same time. It's specifically the office/parking area, and the hotel itself doesn't get a skybridge (imagine how unhappy Hilton would be).

To be clear, the Marriott Marquis will most certainly have a skybridge connecting it to the GRB; as does the Hilton Americas, so no cause for unhappiness in that regard.
