Why exactly does it matter if blocks south of 45 are called “Downtown” or “Midtown”? Plenty of suburbanites call the entire Inner Loop “Downtown.”

EllenOlenska
Hell, I might say downtown is everything downtown except the portion east of Main and south of Dallas, which includes this building.

So, by that token, what if they started calling South Midtown Downtown? Because that’s essentially what the OP is asking about. HNathoo
Does anyone know if they plan on pursuing phase II as soon as this one is complete? I imagine the crane will be coming down soon, so it'll be interesting to see if it's transferred to the next block.

Seems like they would have to do a lot of ground work prep like they did on this before any cranes could transition onto the second build. The block has a lot of concrete on it that would have to be dealt with. Tower cranes need as tall as these need a very secure base to be bolted onto.
Popular Post hindesky
Talked with a Harvey worker who was helping out at the Preston garage demo who works the Camden Conte. I asked if he heard whether they would start the second tower after this was completed. He didn't know because Camden has their own construction division and thought they might do the work themselves after overseeing the build of the first tower. I also asked when they would be letting tenants move in and he said November for the first 14 floors and they would turn over the completed building to Camden first part of next year.

Its like how retail is innovating in its business with popup-stores, or the food industry with food trucks. These are great ways to make it easier for new comers to get into an established industry. kbates2
I think the Texaco building did this for a bit. At least Camden is telling prospective renters before-hand that there may be hotel renters there. Definitely can change the feel of your home if you have single-night renters there all of the time too.
ErickEdgar
Definitely agree with kbates2 about how it will change the feel. We had a property in Midtown that had no more than a handful of AirBNB units and the residents weren’t pleased. The ABNB people would treat it like a hotel, no cares, since they would be in and out. I’m surprised they released so many units to them as well. Only thing that makes sense is they will be generating income right away and won’t take as long to stabilize.

If they are smart they will restrict this a few floors and thats it. Not exactly a good idea to intermix the two. I haven't exactly experienced this before, but after spending extended time in hostels before. It can be a bit destablizing when there is a consistent overturn of people day in and day out. I can imagine that woudl destablizing in what one would like a residential environment to be.
cspwal
Even restricted to one floor, if the lobby and security isn't setup for it from day one it can be pretty bad. Skyhouse has the 16th floor totally dedicated to short term rentals, but the concierge has to let them up to get in. This means they aren't at the front desk as much, which causes a cascading effect of issues.

"Austin @ Leland will Be Closed 6/28 to 7/1/19" For what I assume will be the tower crane removal. Talked with a caulking foreman overseeing his crew, he said lots of work has been completed on the inside.
