arche_757
Makes sense that it would be near the Galleria, though honestly I think there is also a shortage of hotel space in/near the TMC. I think that Mariott is almost always booked with out of town guests seeking medical treatment or there for a loved one. I'm guessing the new hotels in downtown can accomodate some of them?
Urbannizer
Galleria Plaza? http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2013/03/galleria-area-complex-changes-hands/Seems to be right. The link does say they plan to add a new project, and the name of the new owners of Galleria Plaza is on the rendering. Houston19514
It looks like the low-rise portion of that rendering may be a re-hab of the existing shopping strip along Sage, with the hotel being added on the current surface lot at the corner of Sage and Alabama.
TowerSpotter
Does that mean they would demolish what's there? Simon Group had planned a 300 unit high rise in the corner of Sage and Alabama.

Looking at the map it seems that would be the only place to add something. Looks like they would extend the retail to the street too, doesn't it? Towerspotter, do you have a reference for that? It's not ringing a bell for me. Edit: that would be on the north east corner Towerspotter. Edited November 13, 2013 by lockmat

Urbannizer
An Atlanta developer has broken ground on a hotel next to the Houston Galleria, the newest real estate project in an area that's seen a surge of development in recent years. The property, a 325-room Hyatt Regency, is being developed by a partnership between Songy HighRoads and the Carlyle Group at the northwest corner of Sage Road and West Alabama. Most of the retail space will be demolished to make room for the new hotel. Songy said the shopping space was only about half full when the property was purchased. Two retailers, a spa and a tailor, will stay in the complex. Designed by Gensler, the Hyatt will have 350-square-foot rooms, 20 suites, 15,000 square feet of meeting space and a large fitness center overlooking a pool deck. The hotel will be 14 stories tall and total 260,000 square feet. Aimbridge Hospitality will manage the property when it opens in late 2015. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/325-room-hotel-headed-to-Galleria-area-5056518.php

monarch
although, i shall state that i am extremely happy regarding the new galleria area hotel construction. not to mention, the overall density that this new edition shall undoubtably create.. however, why on earth, didn't the developers, just plan vs construct a GRAND HYATT HOTEL in the very first place? i for one, can certainly understand the concept distinctions. (catering to different age groups vs genres) etc. however, i shall have to state that i find it a bit alarming, that these atlanta based developers, to just waltz into the houston market.. brandishing such a profound silly season construction concept. everyone knows that houston is famous for it's no zoning model. however, isn't this a bit over the top? two side by side hyatt brands with different missions, standing firm directly across the street.. from the houston galleria. the westin oaks vs the westin galleria, are two 4**** hotels catering to the same upscale clientele. these hotels, were conceptualized / constructed, to offer the foremost convenience as per it's clients. one tower constructed upon the rear of the galleria. the other constructed upon the front entry. nonetheless, both westin towers, hold true to form vs consistency.. upon it's overall mission / standards. the only difference being within the naming.. oaks vs galleria. houstontexasjack
Thanks for the link to the other thread cloud713. Getting back to topic, I am happy to see additional development next to the Hyatt Regency. A Hyatt Place fits the bill nicely for Uptown and gives Hyatt an offering between the Regency and Hyatt House concepts.I've thought the Astroworld lot would be a great site for a Grand Hyatt. It would be a great convention hotel for OTC.
