And not all that unusual for huge convention hotels. See, for example, the back side of the Omni in Dallas.
urbanize713
I think it is a grreat spot for a banner like the one's they put on the side of GRB. It seems like we can make more use of thet wall with the traffic around this area.
ArtNsf
I just have to comment at this point - seems like the glass outer shell is taking AGES to get done in an area with tons of available construction "man" power available ? Shortage of glass ? Maybe problems with delivery of the product by the manufacturer ? 609 Main has only been U/C for a while longer, yet is almost finished with the cladding, despite being about 10 times as massive. Just my two cents.

UtterlyUrban
The sequencing of construction here seems very disjointed to me (a layman). Regardless, i am excited to have this building come online soon.
Urbannizer
Facade panels up on the main side; so far I'm not impressed.
bobruss
Most of the panels still have the white protective skin attached and I'm hoping that once it's removed the brown panels will be a nice contrast to the dark glazing. I also like the way the Catalyst panels play with the brick of the adjacent County tower. I trust that Ziegler Cooper took all of those things into consideration in planning for the color, and I think the peeling white sheets also detract from seeing the whole effect. I'd give it a little longer because I think once finished this will be a nice addition to the eastide view. It definitely stretches the skyline.

They use the tower crane itself to lower it to a height where a crane on the ground can finish it on the weekend. Like this video but instead of adding sections they take them off.

Popular Post hindesky
Had to work today but on the way home I could still see the lowered tower crane and no AT truck crane boom in the air so I drove by to see why. Circle 8 was loading out the lattice jib boom which seemed very strange so I asked some of the riggers what was going on. They said a drunk driver plowed into the boom at 40mph when they were in the process of assembling the jib which was on the street. It severely damaged the lattice boom lacings and thus shut down the job. Hope that driver had lots of insurance. rechlin
Looks like work on the exterior of the upper floors has finally resumed. They appear to have taken a break beginning on December 3, but finally today they are putting more of that white insulation up. I can't see the lower floors from where I am, so maybe they were focusing on the bottom, but I was surprised at how quickly it was going for so long, only to apparently come to a stop for a full month.

CREguy13
This area is going to be a boom for all empty lots surrounding MMP. This is very bold, but I think Houston could have the best ballpark neighborhood at the end of all this.
