towerjunkie
I would have to agree with the list above. That's exactly what I would have put down. I have a few questions...1. There was a Cullen Bank Tower???2. What did the Campeau Tower look like?
Subdude
2. I had a picture at one point which I can't locate at the moment. As I recall it looked vaguely Mayan and wasn't very attractive. With a location in south downtown it could have struggled to find tenants. Probably not a huge loss in retrospect. Another one I would put on the list would be the other half of the Wedge Tower. towerjunkie
There's a lot I have to learn about cancelled houston structures. I never knew the Wedge tower was to have another half! O.O Must do research....
towerjunkie
Ok I know the one on the right was the block 265 proposal so is the one on the left the Campeau Tower? Or is it one of the bids for the block 265 proposal. Also thanks for that extra info on the Cullen Bank Tower.
Urbannizer
The one on the left was a design proposal for Bank of the Southwest Tower.
towerjunkie
Ok I found this page on another forum from skyscraper page that showed silhouettes of the proposed towers in Downtown you can clearly see the Cullen Bank Tower next to Continental Center 1 and the Campeau tower although not in much detail since they are silhouettes. Subdude
#4 in that diagram is the building that was planned for the block north of Foley's. They got as far as tearing down the Lamar Hotel, two movie theaters, and the C&I building on the block, but then it reverted to surface parking until the Reliant building was constructed. 1. Yes, it was originally planned to be located at 1550 Smith St, reaching 904 feet and (I think) it was supposed to have a similar crown to the current Continental Center building. According to emporis, it was actually supposed to be called "Cullen Bank Tower II." I can't find a rendering for it, but we will soon have the Chevron building going up in that neck of the woods anyways. There was a Phillip Johnson proposal for the site that had two glass towers opening into a central atrium.
towerjunkie
Ah, isn't that site being proposed for another tower? I think it was hilcorp or something.

Tumbleweed_Tx
this is what the Campeau building was going to resemble, the American International Building in NYC
ChannelTwoNews
There was a Phillip Johnson proposal for the site that had two glass towers opening into a central atrium. In this instance, I think the final version turned out better than the proposal. On a side note - didn't realize the artist of this image was the one who created some of the better known renderings of the Bank of the Southwest Tower. According to this site anyway. Some good renderings of the Chase Tower, Enterprise Tower & the Hilton on Post Oak (with initially planned reflecting pool & fountains along Post Oak) as well.
