CREguy13
Spent some time here this weekend. I feel more confident about downtown apartments and condos being successful after visiting. The finishes in the common areas, units are very high-end and very well done. It was still under construction in the hallways, but this place is great.
Popular Post Urbannizer
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/local/gray-matters/article/The-highest-boldest-swimming-pool-in-the-U-S-is-10795729.php#photo-11728342 And while a traveler might encounter something like it in Singapore or Dubai, this is the only clear, cantilevered pool in the U.S. (Dallas's Joule Hotel has a cantilevered pool, but it doesn't have a clear bottom. And it's only on the 10th floor. Houston for the win.) Guy Jackson, of Jackson & Ryan Architects, says it was clear from the conception of the building project that it had to be exciting. "We didn't want to have an opportunity to be bold and not be bold," he says. But how would they get that wow? Ther pool idea bounced back and forth for weeks and months, says Philip Schneidau, the CEO of Woodbranch Management. But they kept coming back to the clear, cantilevered pool. "This simple form proved very dramatic," says Richard Harper, also of Jackson & Ryan. Strangely enough, the physics of the pool aren't all that complex. "The technology is relatively simple," says Jackson. "It's just far up in the air." (They also believe it to be the highest pool in the U.S.) They found a company, Reynolds Polymer from Colorado, that has been making big aquariums for 30 years. Reynolds made the distinctive curved acrylic form. If laid flat it would be 15 feet long. The whole pool contains 62 cubic feet of water, or 33,000 gallons, and at a four-foot depth, it weighs 250 pounds per square foot. Harper says it was designed to withstand hurricane conditions. "We over-engineered," he says. "It's not going anywhere." They also used special waterproof concrete and epoxy-coated rebar, what Jackson calls "belt, suspenders and thumbtacks." The basic physics is sound, says Salti, because the water presses against the giant concrete beams. At night, the pool is lit in an array of colors. Technically, Harper says, "you can't light water," so they light the surrounding surfaces and rely on the reflections — hello again, physics! — at an angle to create a mirror effect on the pool.

I bet the worst that happens is that the owners of the tower ask them to remove it, or be sued. 11 hours ago, JoninATX said: Thanks for the video, but talk about some 007 James Bond type place. On the other hand, they'll probably be using this as a training video and security is going to get a little stiffer. even though these people aren't exactly who the staff are trying to keep away.

Naviguessor
There have been pools like this for decades, actually. First one I saw was in Melbourne, Australia in 1996. So, it's not new. What may be new about this one is the height above the ground...and that someone filmed it in a creative manner and posted it.
