UTMB Health Galveston To Develop Satellite Clinic Near 61st St.

Recommended Posts

The nonprofit holding company of Galveston-based The Sealy & Smith Foundation acquired an 11-acre tract of land off 61st Street on the island and is working with the University of Texas Medical Branch to develop a satellite clinic on the site.

Purchase price of the land was not immediately available.

Planning for the clinic campus is still in the early phases to determine the size of the development and what services would be offered, according to a statement from UTMB. The Sealy and Smith Foundation will fund construction of the new clinic.

I was wondering if the Sealy Smith Foundation was going to find a new "expansion" location after they sold the Yacht Club (which had been ear-marked for long-range UTMB expansion before Ike)

The Central City property is a fairly large tract of land, centrally located, close to the Seawall, and probably easier to elevate, after mitigating he environmental concerns with nearby Greens Bayou and the brackish wetlands.
