I am in the group of people who never knew nor saw that these lit up. Granted, I was young and was never around this area when these bridges were first built. It would look nice to see them lit up though.

They used to look pretty neat and made it interesting driving through the area until they started burning out and were never replaced.  I always thought it would be more interesting if the bridges were painted different colors instead.

We wanted to update you on the current status of the District’s bridge lighting project and ask that you share with your civic/HOA/community groups etc. so we can reach the widest audience possible. In order to get the bridges ready for lighting as part of the District's Bridge Lighting Project, the bridges over 59 are being painted. The painting crew will be doing one bridge at a time, and has already completed work on Hazard as of September 21st. Painting work requires a total closure of the bridge for approximately one week, possibly longer in inclement weather.

The order of bridge closures for painting is as follows:
1) Hazard - COMPLETED
2) Mandell - CLOSED 9/21-9/28
3) Woodhead - Beginning Wednesday, September 28th
4) Graustark - Pending
5) Dunlavy - Pending
6) Montrose - Pending

We anticipate finishing this stage of the project by the first week of November.

Following the painting work, electrical work will begin. This will require bridge closures for an indeterminate period of time. Electrical work on Hazard will begin on September 22nd. Thus, Hazard will be closed. Once we have completed work on Hazard, we will have a better understanding of the timeline for electrical work, and will be able to provide estimated times for closures. From then on, electrical work will be done on two bridges at a time.

We appreciate the community's patience as we move forward on this exciting project for Montrose. To learn more about the bridge lighting project, check out our Mobility Initiatives & Visual Improvements FAQ and our Visual Enhancements presentation [PDF].

Thanks so much.

Yep

a follow up email arrived

Since our update yesterday on the bridge lighting project we have received additional information in response to questions asked in the community about how the closure of the bridges will work.

Only one bridge will be closed at a time, allowing one lane of traffic in each direction on the open bridge during construction. Reroute signage will be posted as well. We appreciate your patience as we undertake this project, and we would like to thank the TxDOT crews that are working quickly to reopen the bridges.

Dear Community Stakeholder -

We wanted to update you on the current status of the District’s bridge lighting project and ask that you share with your civic/HOA/community groups etc. so we can reach the widest audience possible. Thanks so much for sharing!

Current bridge closures are as follows:
1) Hazard – Pending (Closed 10/17-10/31)
2) Mandell – Pending Electrical
3) Woodhead – Pending Electrical
4) Graustark – Pending Painting (Closed 10/18 through 10/25)
5) Dunlavy – CLOSED  through 10/11
6) Montrose – Pending Painting (One bridge closed nightly starting 10/17)

In order to get the bridges ready for lighting as part of the District’s Bridge Lighting Project, the bridges over 59 are being painted. The painting crew will be doing one bridge at a time, and has already completed work on Hazard as of September 21st.

Painting work requires a total closure of the bridge for approximately one week, possibly longer in inclement weather. Rerouting signage will be posted to ease congestion.

During the painting of the Montrose bridges, only one of the two Montrose bridges will be closed at a time, allowing one lane of traffic each way on the open bridge. Montrose bridges will only be closed at night.

We anticipate finishing this stage of the project by the first week of November.

Following the painting work, electrical work will begin, and the light fixtures on the bridges will be replaced. This will require bridge closures for approximately two weeks.

We appreciate the community’s patience as we move forward on this exciting project for Montrose. To learn more about the bridge lighting project, check out our Mobility Initiatives & Visual Improvements FAQ  and our Visual Enhancements presentation [PDF].

I heard from a neighbor today that the electrical work is progressing.  He said they were working on the western-most bridge, and it appears the lights are going on top of the arches rather than along the sides, where the old lighting was.  Hopefully the lights will be better protected from graffiti overspray that way.

Dear Community Stakeholders,

We have an update on the project schedule for the bridge lighting.

Hazard will be closed through next Wednesday, 11/02/16.

Woodhead will be closed 11/02-11/16.

One bridge on Montrose will be closed nightly 10PM-5AM starting on 11/07, with a pending end date.

We appreciate your patience during this project, and are excited to reveal the results once it is through. If you'd like to learn more, and see a more comprehensive schedule, please see this update at our website: http://montrosedistrict.org/2016/09/bridge-lighting-project-road-closures/

Dear Community Stakeholders,

We wanted to provide you with the latest update from our contractors on the bridge lighting project road closures.

Starting on Friday, November 7thboth bridges of Montrose Blvd will be closed nightly from 10PM-5AM for seven to ten days. By closing both bridges, crews are preventing paint overspray from potentially harming vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.

We appreciate your patience during this project, and are excited to reveal the results once it is through. If you'd like to learn more, and see a more comprehensive schedule, please see this update at our website: http://montrosedistrict.org/2016/09/bridge-lighting-project-road-closures/

Your assistance in sharing with your neighbors, friends and colleagues is appreciated!

Dear Community Stakeholders,

We have a short update on the bridge lighting road closures. All bridges but the Montrose Blvd bridges have been painted. If weather permits, the Montrose bridges should be finished by Monday, November 14th.

Graustark is being used to re-route traffic while the bridges are being painted.

Electrical work is progressing well, and Woodhead is re-opened as of Tuesday, November 8th. Work will then move to Dunlavy, which will be closed starting Friday, November 11th, to re-open within two weeks. Once Dunlavy is complete, crews will move on to Graustark.

We are very excited with how this project is progressing, and we cannot wait to show you the results. Thank you for your patience.

I am just hoping they continue to maintain them... they have exposed wires leading into these lights... and, in all honesty, looks like something I would do if I bought them from Amazon and installed them myself. haha But if one of these lights go out, here's hoping they fix them in a timely manner. Think the biggest thing that will affect them is the added moisture this area brings, which you see on a lot of warning labels about high humidity areas when installing outdoor lighting.

Just crossed the dunlavy bridge this evening and could see all of the bridges illuminated. They look spectacular.

I'm sure at the amount they paid for this they have some kind of contract for upkeep with the installers. At least I hope they do.

Who do you report it to?

Because it looks as if they've already started slacking no more than 1 month into the relighting. I;ve notice that one of the arches (the 1st one you pass under traveling southwest on 59) is completely out, and the 2nd one already has a bulb out.

I thought they were going to do it different this time around. Didn't they spend 4 million on installation of these lights which were supposed to be LED? Would they do all of this if it were just going to go neglected again?  Was this just a temporary effort?

Extremely disappointed.
