The ground level accommodates retail space, the residential lobby, and a private pocket park courtyard space, which will be accessible from both the residential lobby and from the adjacent ground-floor retail space for outdoor dining.

May not be open to the public.

"Private park" doesn't necessarily mean closed to the public.  The little space on the NW corner of what is now becoming the Capitol Tower lobby had a little plaque mentioning that it was a private park, but it had no physical barriers to entry.

I don't see why they would go through the effort of constructing the cinderblock walls if they didn't plan on putting a gate there. Maybe Amashgo can chime in, but I would say they're going to fill in the gap with a keypad gate type set up. Otherwise, the wall is just one more place for homeless people to make shelter behind, and would unnecessarily confine the already small space.

Private Pocket Park, the good ole triple P.

If I were a restaurant, I don't think I'd want the patio I'm using for dining to be an entry/exit, but then I guess that might be mixed into the lease cost, and having a walled garden sheltering my dinner guests would be a plus.

I'm thinking about Market Square Bar and Grill (right next to treebeards). There's a courtyard behind their space, it's very nice and cozy, I think they can do more with it, but it's still great.

It'll be a taste of the Houston suburbs, right on Main Street downtown...

Haha. Sadly, that's not even exclusively

to the suburbs in Houston. Unfortunately the walled off/fenced nonsense is as close in as Midtown.. "Let's build a bunch of townhouses in the inner city.. while we're at it, let's throw a fence around the whole site!"

edited to say I totally understand why Hines is doing that. This would be a great nook for homeless to set up camp. Until the city gets more serious about the homeless issue in Houston, expect to keep seeing this in high end residential projects.

Sheesh, I love this project, but is any aspect of it not subsidized? Maybe the gated park...

Unless I'm losing count, this would be the third "food hall" in a 3-ish block radius (lyric garage and the one below Prohibition being the other two). That's a lot of "catalyst" to get the intended reaction up to critical.

The hall is exposed concrete. Did the whole $1.8 million in finish allowance go to just the furniture, fixtures, and equipment?

I really hope the food hall in the Gulf Building won't be exposed concrete. I mean I know that exposed concrete is just so ----ing cool these days, but I really hope they go with something more in keeping with the rest of the building. Exposed concrete is fine here I suppose, wish it could be brick instead.

Still on the tour tonight and this building looks great. The  brick work and accent materials looks so good with the glazing, and now that they've cleared out most of the construction minutiae, its so much easier to appreciate the attention to detail. Its introduction to the neighborhood almost seems like something that happened in the past century.  Ari's relationship to Market Square and the historic district rings true to its renderings and surroundings. It fits into the neighborhood like an old glove. Yet  when seen on the skyline it's  a very handsome brick and glass twenty-first century residential tower. If I had the money and the desire to move again this would be number one on my list. Its already a neighborhood thats been lived in for over thirty years to many a pioneers. Heres to a great pair of pioneers Dan and Jamie who started Trebeards and live on the next block of Travis. Jim Pirtle's founder of Notsuoh, another of those early and longtime residents. Its come a long way! I worked this corner for three years in  early 2000 when Cabo's was in the El Big Bad location. There's been some serious changes since those days!

More on Bravery Chef Hall opening at Aris Market Square

That's the concept being forwarded by Bravery Chef Hall, a chef-driven dining hall proposed for the new Aris Market Square apartment tower under construction at 409 Travis. The owners of Prohibition Supperclub & Bar and Conservatory food hall have yet to sign a lease, but their project is solidly underway at the Hines-owned high rise overlooking historic Market Square.

In addition to the five kitchen stations, there will be two separate cocktail bars. The hall also will sport a 4,000-square-foot patio and sidewalk café seating.

Sounds like the Main Street pocket park space is indeed going to be patio seating for the ground floor restaurant tenant.

House flooded in West U, Bellaire, Memorial? Come live here

Few if any houses flooded in West U, thankfully.  I assume some probably did, but the city's flooding was mostly just street flooding.  Bellaire and Memorial are different stories, of course.

Any possibility for some retail there?

Come to think of it, it seemed that all the early renderings indicated street retail, but the finished product doesn't seem to make much provision for it, nor have we heard anything about leasing. I wonder if the promised allotment of retail will all be taken up by the chef's hall, buried inside the building? I don't mean to panic prematurely, but the same thing happened with BG Group Place, where early press mentioned ground floor retail, but the retail when it came was all inside.

What makes you think the Chef's Hall will be buried inside the building?  My understanding is that the Chef's Hall indeed takes all of the retail space, but it is in no way buried inside the building.
