UtterlyUrban
A brick facade? In these days of beige synthetic stucco ticky-tack, it's nice to see.

The back of the Texaco building has also been done in brick and looks quite nice.

BigBlueContractor
Would be so curious to see if there was a time lapse video showing the start of construction - I would be curious to see how 609 Main looks in a time lapse video - for some reason I think that 609 Main was built extremely fast.... bobruss
Heres a link to the 609 camera and if you look there is a time lapse for its construction, with a couple of hiccups when it got knocked loose.

htownboy
Wow those historical buildings are beautiful! Such a shame that Houston seems to hate them. But I guess people will do anything to make money. edit: Whoa! There's an old abandoned single family home directly south of minute maid near the Incarnate Word Academy. Looks like a nice house and it used to have a neighbor two years ago. I hope it doesn't get torn down, its a pretty house. BTW, it's on this short street called Chenevert. Texasota
It's a protected landmark, so it wont get torn down. Whether it's allowed to sit there and rot into the swamp is another question.

The former neighbor house will eventually house offices/rectory for Incarnate Word/Annunciation Church. They moved it about a year ago on to the church's block, but have not started any restoration work. It looks pretty rough. Both houses have some history around them, no idea if anyone wants to restore the other one.

Urbannizer
KHOU's afternoon newscast played a short clip of the drone video. They described the building as a "32-floor mid-rise". http://www.khou.com/news/houston-construction-workers-using-drones-after-new-faa-regulations-passed/315761381

Popular Post bobruss
I really like Ziegler Cooper's solution for this site. The way they've melded early twentieth century materials and style in the podium with twenty first century design in the upper floors is perfect. They're use of materials is spot on and the juxtaposition of contemporary glazing against early twentieth century brick featured in the above image is really going to be stunning when its finished. It sets the bar high for future projects in this area. But we have grown to expect nothing less from Hines. This is a special bonus gift for this boom. This building will be the tipping point for downtown living.

HoustonIsHome
This cycle was awesome, we got some nice infill. This and 609 Main are two of my favorites and both are from Hines. And it going up on a surface lot makes it so much better. Can't Wait To See What Goes Up Next cycle. Its going to be tough to beat this on the residential department and even tougher to beat 609 Main in the commercial department.
