monarch
^^^ since we are referencing the BACK SIDE of this edifice (see above illustration) maybe the FRONT SIDE holds more promise. also, let's not forget the wonderful / inspiring magic of LED lighting effects as well as beautiful landscaping aesthetics...

HoustonIsHome
I don't think the building is as hedious as you all are describing.Yes it is a let down in terms of new architecture. Yes it is not as good as the rendering. ButNo it is not as ugly as embassy suites.Yes, its boring facade will allow it to blend into obscurity.

astros148
Masterpiece? Forget master piece this isnt even any sort of modern architecture. A building this hideous wouldnt be allowed in Miami, Chicago, etc. Its hideous!!!!
Chi-Char-Hou-Dal
Crazy thing this WOUOD be allowed in chi but it would cost the developers 9x more $$ - and the other thing people wouldn't talk about it because there's no way someone would buy up the equivalent piece of real estate - maybe river north? Just doesn't make sense ; Houston CBD can disappoint today because it is not yet there where it's not HAIFers complaining but rather a bad business decision to cheap out or build a prison prototype. Houston. I'm gonna give you a pep talk , we are in no way inferior, in fact we are a world class city in every way! Proud HAIFer's we need time and booze , for our CBD to evolve into a space where this type of let down is not hated on but would never happen. Things are pointing in the right directionKeep calm and look to Monarch for guidance!!!
King Owl
actually the federal prison downtown looks better than this. At least it has some landscaping around it. This looks more like soviet style tenements or south side of Chicago section 8 projects to me.

Montrose1100
Funny thing is - it's almost a copy of the Hilton Americas with a smaller color palette. True, but the Hilton used better materials and was completed over a decade ago. And do two colors qualify as a pallet?
Nole23
The Hilton is head and shoulders above this thing. With that said, we'll have more hotel rooms in a "cheaper" price range as compared to the Marquis, Hilton, ect. Once the huge block behind the Marquis and in front of Hampton/Homewood is developed and the other half of the block it sits on, it will block the view of it lol

Nate99
I'm telling you, this might turn out decent. The finishing touches and landscaping will be critical. As has been pointed out, there are better looking Hampton Inns out there, but this should be as good as one could expect for the brand, regardless of hopes. Any update on the Trammell Crow residential tower across Crawford from the Marriott? As rendered, that tower would tilt perception of the Hamptonwood within the area to nothing but a semi-pleasant bit of nondescript infill.
