The Southmore: Hines Museum District Highrise

Recommended Posts

Yeah but it's reflecting the west side of downtown when it is facing the south side of downtown/looking north.

Agreed, the rendering is basically putting emphasis on the building's potentially fabulous views of downtown and the TMC as it rises between them.

This building looks like the Whitco and the Sovereign mated and gave birth to this crap. Zero imagination.

I think there's a sort of "Emperor's New Clothes" phenomenon here. I don't think people would profess to like this building nearly as much if it wasn't by Hines. The name behind it convinces us that we must be seeing high quality.

Your post #72 nailed it pretty well.

Hines Museum District

Location: Museum District block bounded by Southmore, Oakdale, San Jacinto and Caroline

Developer: Hines

Original plan: For more than a year, the company has been planning a 25-story, 225-unit apartment building, called the Southmore, on the site.

Update: Construction started in November, and the building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016, according to Hines.

It's awesme heading north on 45, seeing all the cranes Downtown. Heading on the overpass to 59, money shot of Midtown, Montrose, all the way to Uptown littered with cranes. When 59 is elevated, you see this tower's crane along with the Carter's. After the sunken portion you see both towers going up by Greenway, and when passing 610 you can see the new Millenium & ConocoPhillips going up in the distance. Ah-mazing.

Was this that lot that had that bank drive through on it?

No, that's still there. It's catty-corner to this one (Southmore, San Jacinto, Fannin, Palm). Don't know why such a prime lot is wasted on a small drive through and nothing else. I imagine it can't remain that way for too much longer.
