If the Sky House guys were building it, I would say yes, but at the rate they are going I don't see them doing it.

Which brings up a thought:

The city secured the super bowl by promising more hotel rooms. Anyone remember how many? Was there a specific location for those rooms to be added or could they be anywhere in the metroplex? Are we close or have we already passed the hurdle?

I don't think the city promised more hotel rooms than we already had.  We were required to commit 19,000 rooms.  We passed the hurdle long long ago (and with regard to the 2017 Super Bowl, had it met a the time the bid was made).  I'm pretty sure the only specific promise made to the Super Bowl selection committee regarding new hotels was that we would have the Marriott Marquis as part of the package.

I think we have somewhere around 75,000 hotel rooms in the metro area.  By the time the Super Bowl arrives, we should have well more than the 19,000 in just the central areas of Downtown/Medical Center/Museum District/Uptown/Greenway Plaza (if we didn't already).   Downtown and Uptown combined will have well over 16,000 rooms.

Alessandra website still says it's opening Fall 2016.

Well, that is good!

But, wasn't the Marriott marque also scheduled for fall 2016? Looking at it and looking at this project, it sure seems that this project is on a different timetable. Perhaps it will really begin to fly now.... It is a smaller hotel so, I guess it is certainly possible that it could catch up to the Marriott.

I love that Root Sports has their studio there along with some cool adult play spots like House of Blues and Lucky Strike. I think the hotel is going to drive retail, it almost has to. People who stay there are going to want to shop and play conveniently. As of right now there is a solid foundation of development to build on. It makes me wonder that if enough retail and development happens downtown, could Houston become a nice little destination city?

Lionstone Investments joins forces with Midway to develop GreenStreet Mixed-Use Project

http://realtynewsreport.com/2015/09/16/lionstone-joins-forces-with-midway-to-develop-greenstreet-mixed-use-project-in-downtown-houston/

Midway said plans are to solidify the ongoing investment in this mixed-use destination by further enhancing the pedestrian feel of the three-block development and to serve as an anchor to downtown Houston’s shopping district along Dallas Street. Improvements include activating additional walkways to instill a more walkable and pedestrian feel along the three-city blocks.

Does anyone know when the external improvements to Greenstreet will be completed? Because Greenstreet still looks really plain from the outside.....

Any work to the Dallas-side probably won't happen until after all the Dallas St Utility/Streetscape work is done. Just my guess...

The good news: all the holes dug for utility work on Dallas east of Main (in front of Alessandra) have been filled. Don't know about further down..

Light was on last weekend as well!

Now that we are on this topic, why is it that many of the downtown buildings aren't illuminated anymore?

I remember growing up seeing the skyline lights from 45N and the Beltway

I agree that Houston could use some help in this area.  Great accent lighting makes for a more distinctive and memorable downtown views at night.

We don't want to go full Dallas either, that's doing too much.

I'm saying add a little light to some structures. Like this picture of how it used to be.

I always liked how the Chase Tower looked along with the Houston Center and Fulbright building at night.

What do you think about the lighting on 3737 buffalo speedway?  It's kinda on the bright side but it's no the typical trim on the roofline.

I really liked the Power of (over?), Houston spot lighting.
