Ah man. I knew I forgot to post something. Oh well, yes, they started working on this earlier this week.

Based on the renderings, there appears to be all glass corners on the backside here. Not sure if they want to add in windows as well...

Three tower cranes across the street from one another.  Does that make a total of five downtown now (?)(with Hilcorp and Marquis), and with at least three more on the way this year? (Skanska, Six Houston, Market Square) It's not pre-Olympics Beijing yet, but that's pretty darned impressive.

Off the top of my head, right now:

3 - 1111 Travis

2 - 609 Main

2 - Marriott Marquis

1 - Old Texaco renovation

1 - Apartments across from Skyhouse

1 - Trammel Crow Garage on Louisiana

1 - Alley Theater renovation

1(?) - UHD

Great list. So 12 cranes downtown right now. How many do we think will be up at the height of all this construction.. 20 cranes?

Would think more if everything happens.

Under construction now:

2(?) - Hines Market Square

2(?) - Market Square Tower on Milam

2(?) - Capital Tower

2(?) - Hampton Inn/Homewood

1(?) - Houston First Office

1 - Additional crane at 609 Main

Likely:

2(?) - 6 Houston Center

2(?) - Skyhouse 2

2(?) - Hotel Alessandra

1(?) - 800 Bell renovation

3(?) - Chevron

Potential:

Many apartments

There's also the mobile crane at 500 Crawford which is certainly not small at all and can even be seen by the north/northwest side.

true.. i just glanced at the downtown development map and realized how many projects have recently been moved to "under construction" that dont have cranes yet. so we could reach my guesstimate of 20 within a couple months. we might see close to 30 cranes downtown in 2015. that will be the year of the crane IMO. at least for downtown.

some edits to your list..

Houston First will have multiple cranes i would imagine. one for the garage, one for the office..

SkyHouse 1 only had 1 crane.

Skyhouse Main will probably have one crane as well.

Hotel Alessandra has a very small footprint and will probably have one.

800 Bell may not even have a crane but I suppose the Texaco renovation proves otherwise.

Somewhat random question but is Houston and Austin the only Texas cities experiencing this CBD construction boom or is Dallas as well? Just curious and don't mean to delve too much off topic.

From what I understand Dallas is experiencing a boom in its Uptown district.

From what I understand Dallas is experiencing a boom in its Uptown district.

It is - about a dozen projects. All in the 10-20 story range.

There are supposed to be more, but they are getting a lot of low-rise wraps west of downtown and in suburban locations.

The big news was the State Farm project, which is four buildings of various heights in Richardson. Toyota is also supposed to build a campus but I'm guessing it won't be like the Energy Corridor projects.

Some of the downtown skyscrapers have gone from office to residential, but still plenty of vacancies. I expect more conversions.

Both cities have definitely grown.
