Went to Alexlrad Bar near Midtown underneath the overpasses lots of tents. Many homeless people there.  People laying in the streets. I saw at least 40 tents. It's was very sad.

Are you talking about the area under the Spur?

Tent city runs under 59 east of Caroline and Fiesta until almeda.

There is a small contingent under the spur at Alabama, but the main guy there is the neatest street person I've ever seen. He actually has mattresses, sweeps around his bed has a bike rack and is a cool guy. He must have been a marine the way e makes his bed.

I don't condone the tent city but this particular guy impresses he hell out of me.

There is also another test city under 59 at the convention center.

TexDot owns the right of way and the city has had no control until the new ordinance takes affect.

Its a no encampment ordinance, which the city has never had before. It went before city council last week but I didn't hear the outcome.

They said after 30 days they would start removing tents.

Maybe I am seeing things but I drove by downtown today around 2130 and saw that the bottom half of the crown was lit with white LEDs

I'm planning on being downtown tonight to shoot so I'll get a picture of it if it's lit up.

on the construction cam still online for this tower: https://app.oxblue.com/open/Hines/609Main , does anyone know what the construction is for ?  If you look about halfway up the tower and just to the right in the frame.  There is a tall crane with a few floors below under construction.  I don't think this is the HSPVA or the Capitol Tower, am I wrong ?

Well I went downtown and I did get a photo of the 609 Main building but it didn't really show much of the crown.  That said, it is still just lighting up the two angled upper sections of the crown.  I hope that the following picture I got this evening will make up for my insolence.

Downtown Houston

This is an awesome view.

Nice! Wish I could save this.  This picture kinda makes me sad though, knowing that the freeway will be wider and wipe out some of those structures.  How cool would it be if that freeway wasn't there.?

Let's replace that freeway with a gigantic lazy river that has tributaries to the Marriott's Texas pool and the grand swimming hole planned for somewhere near the Buffalo Bayou. Screw you, San Antonio river walk and step aside Comal/Guadalupe/Frio, we've got the I-69 Riverway.

This perspective is kind of unappealing. There are too many holes and a lack of general density. It does show off a lot of our signature towers, which is alright. I've seen it used occasionally and it puzzles me.

One of the main reasons for the gaps is this viewpoint is perpendicular with the grid, so naturally the towers will hide behind one another. You probably already knew that though since your criticism does seem to be directed at the viewpoint itself.

Can't find the skyline update thread any more (I've never had much luck with the search feature on this forum) so I felt like this thread could apply.  The prototypical downtown Houston skyline shot.

I think I can tell where the broken window glass came from (upper left corner).  That's quite a distance for the glass to fall!

Unless the entire pane falls out of the window frame.  Did that happen here?

The glass also can be removed from the inside, which often happens when buildout is going on in order to facilitate fresh air ventilation.  Generally there's a plywood plug with a few fans.  The gulp factor from inside is huge for those of us who start getting a bit unsettled with several floors of glass railed escalators.

Still, it does look freaky at first glance.
