Greenspoint

I recently found out some interesting news about Greenspoint Mall and its future.

Once upon a time, I used to work at the Foley's in Greenspoint Mall and made a tone of friends while I was there, many of them who I still communicate with now. Of course, while I was working with the company, the

Another big change will be the addition of skyway bridges that will link Greenspoint Mall to the office towers on the east side of the property, as well as the Marriot and Wyndham hotels. The reason of this is quite obvious. At lunch time, the mall is overrun by these office workers who trek across the parking lots to get to the mall. But when it rains, business is slashed. climate controlled skyway bridges will not only change this, but make the office market in that area more attractable.

This is a great idea!

Never considered the convenience of skybridges at Greenspoint. But more important, I think, will be the expanded size of the building that will eat up unused (and overbearing, I might add) parking surrounding it.

I would imagine the expansion, if done and done well, would lead to a slight increase in property taxes in the Greenspoint District. True?

I remember when I was a kid they had these neat waterfalls with metal pipes of some sort leaning into them, and walkways going across them. But I haven't been there in almost twenty years, so I have no idea if they are still there. You mentioned waterfalls - are those the ones?

Anyone have any pictuers of the founations? Some folks from Humble were recently talking about how neat these things were, but I don't remember them. Did they play music/gravity operated?

I assume you wear Nike Dri Fit clothes to the office?

A wool suit and water don't mix.

Great news.

The Greater Greenspoint Management District must be ecstatic over this. Greenspoint has the basis to become a great urban center in Houston.

With the mall's proximity to the Woodlands-Conroe area and the vast development in the area, I think it can be in competition with the Woodlands mall. The Bass Pro Shops probably figure that the reduced cost of locating in Greenspoint will be worth it. Also, Bass Pro Shops have a tendancy to draw large crowds because they are much more than just a store. I think other shops will follow suit to move into the Mall.

Kjb, I kinda doubt that Greenspoint will be any serious threat of competition to the Woodlands Mall. Even Willowbrook looks staid and out-of-step when compared to the Woodlands Mall. Don't forget also that just off Cypresswood and I-45 North, Gander Mountain just opened a huge new store and Northern Tools is just down the road also. These would be more in line with competition to Bass Pro Shops. Greenspoint is going to need a lot more than Bass Pro Shops to seriously compete with the Woodlands, IMHO.

I dunno.

If I can get the same stuff without driving the extra miles, why wouldn't it be able to compete?

If both Foley's are equal, I am all for driving less.

And at least Greenpoint is in the city of Houston and Harris County. Some of us like to keep our tax dollars local.

Midtown, I really don't care who you give your money to. I'm not a cheerleader for the Woodlands Mall either. I was merely responding to the statement that Greenspoint having Bass Pro Shops might be any competition to the Woodlands Mall. I don't see it happening, that's all. Spend your money where you want for whatever reasons you want. I couldn't care less.

I'm all for the further delveloping of this "first face" of houston w/r/t

IAH; but the I-45 corridor from the sam houston to the 610 is just plain

TACKY (i.e. the strip clubs, porn stores, car dealerships, & furniture dives).

awwwwww.... smell of morning commerce or is that smog? j/k (LOL)

My competition comment was to say that Bass Pro Shops wouldn't be putting their store in unless this mall was going to be getting new stores and being rennovated. Bass Pro Shops move kinda makes the fact that this mall is gointg to be be rennovated something to bet on.

The Greenspoint Management district still has lots of vacant land left for potential development (especially on the southwest corner of I-45 and the Beltway).

Practically everyone I know that is looking for a job is finding one in Greenspoint. Ten in the last year. The office space must be a hot commodity there. Especially with the residential development nearby, employees on that end don't have to drive that far in. Also, many people drive from in the loop to work out there.

I guess Westchase is having good competition for outer ring urban areas.

I would say that Greenspoint has a slighty better area since most of the denser off building area all close together.

The pedestrian bridge concept to the rennovated mall would be a great addition also.

On a related note, I have read that George Mitchell was going to foot the bill to move the entire UH campus to The Woodlands.

Not sure how much is true, or urban legend. But either way, the HECB would not fund UH if they did, becuase it would have been too close to SHSU.

FYI - I am with kjb434 on this one.

Wow, I went to U of H and I never heard that one. Where/when did you hear that? Didn't the Mitchells just give money to U of H for a Music Hall or something?

About Greenspoint, the skybridges-great idea, Bass Pro Shop-great idea, possible commuter rail line-great idea, but... until the high crime aspect of Greenspoint Mall is dealt with satisfactorily, and not just glossed over, you will not be seeing the high traffic generated by the close by Woodlands Mall. Greenspoint may be able to lure the daytime office worker during their lunch hours, but the Woodlands Mall does that and more. It gets lots of tourists as well, and it pulls in a significant amount of nightime shoppers which includes single women and families with children. Neither category will go to Greenspoint at night.

Wasn't Gulfgate kind of ratty and crime ridden before it was taken over?

And wasn't Meyerland kind of crappy before it was taken over?

Just thinking it would happen here also.
