HoustonIsHome
This is very transformative, even for an area sprouting buildings like rows of corn
Montrose1100
Do you think they intentionally chose this brick to play nicely with MMP? If so, very wise, and very awesome. Probably the best wrap we've seen.
jmitch94
500 looks like it is done to look just like Union Station.
bobruss
If you go by you'll notice they have the same stone window treatment also. It will look fantastic as the Westin is also clad in the same materials.
tigereye
Comparing the construction pic to the rendering (same angle from Texas Ave), I'd say we have a slight design change. Upper portions of the building are now entirely brick instead of alternating portions of stone & brick. I like the change. HoustonIsHome
The window treatments seem to be different also. Instead of faux balconies, looks like there are white ledges. I like the change

Looks like they will paint the brick grey/white on the upper two floors in certain sections, and there will still be stone on the first floor. BigFootsSocks
You really think they'd spend all that money to use quality stone and brick, just to go back and paint it white? I'm pretty sure if they were sticking to that, then they'd just get white brick.  But idk, maybe you know something I don't and I'll look like a jabroni in a few weeks.
BigFootsSocks
Anyway, the line that was to seperate the brick from the top stone/white brick is still there, and it runs all the way across the building. Personally, I think it looks out of place, but that's just nitpicking.

Personally, I think it looks out of place, but that's just nitpicking. I think that's there because, as the original rendering shows, they will paint the bricks white above that line on certain portions of the upper floors. Why do all that just to paint it grey/white? I didn't tell them to do it man.
cloud713
If they end up painting brick I will be perplexed..

brijonmang
The upper sections from the original renders appear to be stucco. I'd put the chances of them painting that brick white somewhere around 0%. I think the red brick is here to stay.

Triton
Zoomed in on my Macbook. The textures match. Unfortunately looks like painted brick to me. Guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

Guess we'll find out in a few weeks. Why would they take down scaffolding if they had to paint the over the brick later? I agree with Brijonmang. I think the original plan was stone or stucco but changed to brick. This matches better with MMP & Union Station then the alternating look on the pervious renders. BigFootsSocks
Probably go to a dedicated smoking area. Also known as, "outside"Or they vape. Cmon man, it's 2015!
cspwal
I know in my building the balconies are popular smoking spots; granted they are larger balconies than those faux balconies, but people seem to be comfortable enough to smoke a variety of leafy products
Montrose1100
Just curious, what do smokers do in all these new buildings? I remember smelling smoke from below when on a balcony when I lived in Crystal City and I didn't like it, then I saw the typical group that smoked by the loading dock and dumpsters outside.Usually one of the courtyards, if not all, have dedicated ashtrays. I'd imagine this would also be a smoking area in addition to some of the balconies and plaza areas.EDIT: Per website, it's an 8th floor outdoor sports deck. http://www.500crawford.com Edited August 10, 2015 by tigereye
