Cardboard Cathedral - Christchurch NZ

Recommended Posts

Christchurch, New Zealand - the site of last year's earthquake(s) - is working to rebuild itself.

Although the city's namesake cathedral has been damaged in previous earthquakes since the 19th century, it will now be demolished and rebuilt. A temporary cathedral, designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, will

be installed with room for roughly 700 worshippers. The building's structure will partially be composed of cardboard tubes, lending the name 'cardboard cathedral'.

Here's an rendering of the cardboard cathedral; the full story is below.

Not a fan of the design. But since it's temporary, I guess it'll do for now.

It's certainly a contrast with the 'original' cathedral.
