Camden McGowen Station & Midtown Park At 2727 Travis St.

Tearing down the building would lower the valuation and thus their property taxes... but the demolition cost could easily be more than several years worth of net tax savings.

Therefore, they're building soon or not for a looooong long time.

Would there be a reason for them to demolish this building if they were not starting construction?

Old rendering; no longer accurate.

Yep. Camden totally messed up and refused to build the apartments on the south side of the superblock.

So now, instead of having downtown Houston skyline views, park goers will have glorious views of Camdens apartments and the amazing HCC building.

yeah its an "old rendering" but still essentially the same complex lay out, the whole thing has just been flipped North/South. i just haven't seen the park view of the complex before. i guess it works out for the pool deck of the apartment complex facing the sun, but other then that yeah i wonder why they flipped it (maybe so the residents are closer to the LRT station?) it would of been better views for everyone all around in the original orientation.

The midtown superblock is fenced off, freshly staked, and cleared of the existing building with the midtown mural. Sorry if this was posted elsewhere, I

couldn't find it.

Yeah I noticed the same thing last nite me and my gf caught the train to downtown. This is great news because that building on the property was horrible and it seems like the Superblock Park is finally going to take off

I saw this last night as well! It has been a long time coming just to get it started.

Hmm does not seem to be fronting main st. .that would be kinda of stupid if your trying to sell the urban vibe thing..I understand as it stands now they would be facing a run down shop ..but you have to think what will the area look like later

You gotta be kidding me.

Ok, I thought the whole reason Campo refused to build the apartments on the south side was so the entrance to the apartments would front the light rail platform.

Well, that pic up there looks like the damn front door and leasing office is fronting the freaking park. Wtf.

I don't understand why this is surprising then? what's changed?

Well that's an older rendering, we haven't really seen any concrete renderings yet.

I'm sure they'll press release the final renderings in a couple years, when construction is abbout to start.

Unless this is it.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. But the hole is right across from the McGowen south-bound METRO rail stop. We can only hope that Camden realized how douche-y they were being and decided to switch back to the south side of the block.

Or maybe the garage is going under the apartments.

So a water feature in front of the stage? Fort Worth has a spot on Panther Island that has a water feature between the audience and the stage. It's called the Trinity River.

I guess with the stage over by the bayou off Allen Pkwy we're probably full up with that type of venue for now, but doing something similar with the Alcatraz plan around the jail/post office would have been pretty cool to see.

an upgraded Bagby Park, previously known as Midtown Park, is schedule for grand opening on April 23 at Bagby and West Gray.

Also scheduled is the April 14 groundbreaking ceremony for what will be the new Midtown Park, previously known as Superblock Park, at Travis and McGowen.

Midtown Park is scheduled to open in 2016.

Looks like we may be getting a ground breaking soon...

Fort Worth is trying to achieve that with Panther Island. So far, it looks like nothing's changed in 30 years.

No.

I just spoke with Marlon about this recently, he said they (The Midtown Redevelopment Authority) are building the underground garage, which will take about a year, then shortly after that Camden will begin construction of the apartments.

You can call him and ask yourself.

The sign posted at the construction site makes it look like Camden is indeed building the parking garage.
