cloud713
does anyone know if anything is planned for the parking lot to the south of the super block park? bound by Main/Rosalie/Travis/Anita. it would be the perfect place for a residential highrise overlooking the park. DrLan34
HCC just (last 6 months) repaved that lot and added landscaping, they are using it for extra parking
cloud713
ughh, thats a bummer. dont they have the parking garage to the south of their building to park in? i was hoping for some high rises in midtown in the future to connect the downtown skyline with the museum district and medical center. i guess there are other old buildings and parking lots around to build on.. that lot just really reminded me of the prime lots in NYC around Central Park where they have a few very tall buildings book ending the park.

infinite_jim
It's a large, undeveloped greenfield in the middle of Midtown; that also doubles as parking for the resturants/bars across the street. No rush.

lockmat
The small park on the other side is new information isn't it? Pretty sweet, I think that's a great idea. I also like that the big park has swings, making it a little more family friendly. This whole thing seems like it's gonna be a great addition to the neighborhood. However, what are those white fences on the first floor? Are they private patios or what? They don't look so good so far.

arche_757
I guess I'm just too dumb to understand what's going on here? So... "Super Block Park" is a no-go. We're getting another 7 floor wood framed over parking apartment tower with rents of 1,500+ for a studio apartment with maybe some ground floor stuff? And we're getting a small park space along Anita? I guess that's good at least?
Texasota
...no.This has always been described as a collaboration between midtown and camden. There was never going to be a full superblock sized park. What we're getting is a park (larger than a normal midtown block) along Anita, a small park along mcgowan, and multifamily in between. If anything, this is actually more park space than was originally indicated.I'm particularly interested in the sculpture garden and market space along main. Hopefully the Midtown management district is responsible for the design of that, and not Camden.

Fortune
Did they change the lay out of this project ? ChrisPHous
A little more apartment than park, not that it is a complaint. As of TODAY, being on the other side of lousiana? Would be more "central" but I am glad for the eastern expansion. When all the main st retail and new apartments are built this is perfectly located! Howard Huge
I think the most exciting things in the rendering is the 35 tent "Main Street Tent Market", 35 tents right up to the sidewalk facing Main. Its not ground floor retail in the apartment building but its SOMETHING to generate foot traffic.Again, a minus to that is the park is now on the south side of the block instead of directly catty corner to the McGowan rail platform, I thought that was the point. Or who knows, maybe they didnt want the residents to walk that much further to the rail stop.
lockmat
This is not a huge deal, but do we really need a concert platform at every new park? Two, I'm not so sure having a play area for kids right next to the street is the best idea. Maybe not such a big deal. Lastly, this really is almost a mini-Discovery Green. Not necessarily a bad thing but it would be nice if it had more of its own personality Ok, I'll stop complaining. Overall this is a big win for the fourth ward. Overall this is a big win for the fourth ward. That was my first thought, they are trying to replicate the success of disco green. Which I dont see anything wrong with, I mean look what disco green has done for that part of downtown. If you were making an urban park wouldnt you model it after DG too? Also its not an EXACT copy, and theyre still in the planning phases, fill out the superblock park survey if you haven't already. Anyhow, I don't wanna seem like I was arguing or correcting you, just my two cents, I know you said it wasnt necessarily a bad thing.

scarface
are the plans for the restaurant or mini retail still on for the site of the park? Anyway, this is going to take away from the uniqueness of discovery green. Just my opinion. Edited December 6, 2013 by scarface
