USS Peto (SS-265)

Recommended Posts

Long about 1958-59, my father packed us into the family car and took us out to the Ship Channel somewhere to tour this World War 2-era submarine:

I never knew much about it until I did some research online recently. It turns out it was in Houston as a Naval Reserve training submarine. My father, a WW II amphibious naval forces vet, was in the reserves so that's probably how he knew about this open house tour. The sub was scrapped in Houston around 1960.

My father was like yours, Willowbend56...He showed us kids a submarine that was docked at Brady's Island at Harrisburg, Texas. I'm guessing it was around 1968 or later. One of many good memories. We traveled those roads frequently, Broadway to Harrisburg Blvd.

As an ex-navel submariner I wish I could have seen here but she was a little before my time. Would love to see any pics anyone has of her.
