This is great to see. I didn't believe it would actually be renovated, I thought the signs were just there to make us feel less bad about the abandoned building, kind of like the stories about the old Days Inn...

Not to get too far off topic, but you should check out the Burger Guys Wednesday - Friday at Cafe Luz, next to Bayou Lofts. A little of a trek for most, but definitely worth it.

Thanks for the tip. One can never have too many good burger options.

Downtown, the team is restoring 27k SF 500 Fannin, which was built in 1931 and stood vacant since the ‘80s. Ziegler Cooper is usingWilliam Ward Watkin’s original drawings and will restructure the two-story first level, including restoring a mezzanine level that had been filled in. Paul is excited about the canopy, which he says is unique to this building’s character. Maintaining the interior is challenging, though, because it needs major changes to get up to code. At the end of June, Fretz will begin to office in the top two floors, which feature skylights most modern buildings lack. It's also going for LEED Gold.

If this is recent, it's in awful condition right now. Glad this is happening.

The windows were just different originally and they decided to keep them that way instead of what the rendering showed (without the larger plates of glass). Maybe the tinting is just for environmental issues..

Thats a great building. With the thin rectangular floor plate and big windows, this would make a great option for residential open lofts or home for a group of small businesses. I realize they just finished up with the exterior. If they rework the storefront at the bottom (floor to ceiling glass or just lower the halfwall at the window sill and make the storefront uniform), it would work well for retail.
