After seeing Buffalo Lakes, I noticed Kirksey has another project that started a few months ago.

I'm guessing this is the location, per the HBJ article and Kirksey rendering. http://maps.google.c...019205&t=h&z=16

It won't be as nice as the Menninger campus in Topeka. That was a beautiful place, with hills, trees, etc. Just in the wrong location to keep up with changes in medical economics.

A new $16 million outpatient and education center at The Menninger Clinic, funded entirely with philanthropic gifts, will help to address the community’s unmet needs for mental health care and education, Menninger President and CEO Dr. C. Edward Coffey, said today. Construction of the 25,000-square-foot building will begin this fall with the opening slated for fall 2018.

Anyone know why this road extension was built? It's not a turnaround.  It doesn't go anywhere, stops at the gate.  The driveway has safety cones around it and markings on the fence.

This would be a future road for a Menninger Clinic expansion?

The Gathering Place Capital Campaign Reaches Fundraising Goal

http://www.menningerclinic.org/news-resources/the-gathering-place-capital-campaign-reaches-fundraising-goal

The Menninger Clinic is pleased to announce the successful completion of the “Building Better Futures” capital campaign for The Gathering Place. In total, nearly $900,000 was raised to support renovations to The Gathering Place facility and enhance member programs. The campaign initially launched in the spring of 2018.

Based on a psychosocial clubhouse model, The Gathering Place offers a welcoming community to local adults with serious and persistent mental illness. Focusing on strengths rather than limitations, members of The Gathering Place are empowered to learn, grow and find support through free services and activities.

The Gathering Place moved to its current location on Willow Drive in southwest Houston in 2004. The building has been well loved in the years since, and with the support of our capital campaign donors, we are excited to make important updates to ensure The Gathering Place continues to be a safe and vibrant environment for clubhouse members.

Some of the planned updates include constructing a new teaching kitchen where members will learn to cook healthy meals; relocating and expanding the computer lab to allow for group classes; creating a new gym area and group exercise room; and updating the main gathering room with soft furnishings and conversation areas.

Houston-based Kirksey Architecture designed the construction plans, and Texana Builders will serve as general contractor. Permitting is currently underway. Renovations are expected to begin in mid-July and be completed by December 2020. The total construction cost is $864,545, with the remaining funds going toward program enhancements for members, such as vocational support and educational assistance.

Glad to see Menningers is still around, but, as I said a few years ago, there's no way this is as nice as the old campus in Topeka. That was a beautiful setting, with trees and hills.

My uncle and aunt worked at Menningers back in the 60's and early 70's. The west campus with the tower was beautiful. It's all boarded up now. Hope it will be preserved.

The Menninger Clinic, a nationally ranked nonprofit psychiatric hospital in Houston, and Baylor College of Medicine recently announced a new joint hire.

Robert Boland will jointly serve as the chairman of the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine and as chief of staff at The Menninger Clinic. He will join both organizations effective Jan. 4, 2021, according to a news release.

Boland is replacing John Oldham as chief of staff at The Menninger Clinic. Oldham retired from the position on Sept. 4, according to the release.

The two-story, 33,000-square-foot outpatient services center will be on The Menninger Clinic's 50-acre campus at 12301 S. Main St. in southwest Houston. The facility will house a full suite of outpatient services, including the Menninger Clinic's sleep medicine center, brain stimulation center, outpatient assessment service and other clinical services.

Most of the clinic's services will be situated on the building's first floor. The outpatient center's second floor will feature more than 15,000 square feet for future expansion, Colombo said.

Houston-based Kirksey Architecture served as the architect for the center, and Houston-based Tellepsen Builders is serving as the project's general contractor. The Menninger Clinic selected JLL to manage development of the new center.
