Boy Scout Troop 4 met here on Tuesday evenings in the early/mid 1960s, down in the basement area. There were a number of small rooms, and with no window lighting, it was rather gloomy at the best of times. The church had some other use planned, and moved the troop on (it became Troop 654, meeting at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Lawndale).

I will miss this church! Not only is it a beautiful building but it has personal significance: my grandparents, John and Edith Grimmett, went here from the 1930's to the 1990's. I remember the church buying them a gently used Buick Century for their 50th wedding anniversary. How many churches do that these days?

Don't quote me but my uncle (who still talks to people at the Redeemer) says that the Tellepsen family (who built the current church buildings in the 1950's) has donated enough to keep the church open and handle the major problems. Hopefully the diocese will decide to keep the building and help restore it for the 21st century. I'd like to hope more people attend services there if the church is reopened.

It's been a while! Husband and I have been living in the wastelands of New Caney for the past few years BUT my dad is pretty sick and is passing his home to me now. Once we fix the house up, we will move in and be back in the East End for good! <3

Anyway, I drove past the Church of the Redeemer several months ago and found a demolition crew out there. They were nice enough to let me look inside for a minute and snap a few pics.

I received an email with a .pdf today from when I requested leasing information a while back. Look like units start to be available in August.

There are some really great floor plans there, and a couple really terrible ones.

Always happy to see more smallish units coming online though. Also very curious about the... interior-facing townhouses?

is this what it really costs for an efficiency?

no wonder people are buying houses.

Yes but also no.

"Yes" in that my mortgage payments are a quarter of what a similar sqft apartment runs right across the street from me (Forth at Navigation).

"No" in that this is way overpriced. An efficiency at Forth, which is by all definitions a luxury apartment building, prices a larger and better stocked efficiency at less than $300/m more than this floor plan:

Uh, $300 is a big difference.

Without a doubt, but when the comp is $300 for a nicer building, nicer amenities, nicer appliances, nicer location, etc., it's not that much.

Again, I completely understand that $300/m is a lot of money, but the two buildings are completely incomparable and the price does not reflect that.

Eh, knowing that a 510sf studio with one window at Forth goes for over $1500 and a similar size studio with multiple windows on two walls goes for hundreds less here actually makes me feel better about these prices.

Did a tour of the building last night - they plan to start pre-leasing any day now with move-ins starting in August

Basement level units will have egress windows

New elevator (this is where the pulpit used to be)

Units above what used to be the gymnasium - units on the ground level still have the original (refinished) gym floor

In the sanctuary, they built a "building within a building" as they call it...

Yikes. Some of the units look amazing and others would with cohesive or light colored dry wall. Having flashback cringe to the first time I saw the indoor malls of themed hotels in Las Vegas (Paris/Venetian). Or like a bomb shelter meant to replicate the surface. Hoping the finishing touches justify the rents.

I like the mix of new drywall with old surface on the unit interiors, but the exterior siding on the units in the sanctuary is not great. It should have been metal or something with a better feel, or a completely different approach, but the crappy hardiboard as effectively an interior finish just looks cheap.
