My sister went as well, how was it? It looked like alot of folks were there when I walked by. I'm gonna go tonight.

There was quite a crowd.....too many people for the amount of chairs/tables later in the evening...but Im sure they planned it that way!

The food (appetizers) was good -- bacon wrapped meatloaf, pork sliders, mediterranean platter, and a bunch others that we never got to....the wait staff was great, very friendly and attentive...

Will definitely go back and try their dinners....

"Architects named for new Midtown arts facility

The architecture firm behind the new Montrose H-E-B, and a local firm that has a long list of performing arts spaces in its portfolio, have been selected to design the new Independent Arts Collaborative, an art space proposed for a parcel in Midtown.

San Antonio-based Lake|Flato and Studio Red Architects of Houston will design the building, which is expected to have 85,000 square feet of exhibit and performance space, along with rehearsal, worship, classroom and office space.

The arts group purchased the property — currently a parking lot at 3400 Main St. — in July for $2.5 million, but has not announced a timetable for development. In June, the collaborative said it had to raise $22 million to build the project.

At that time, Houston City Council approved a $6 million tax reimbursement deal for the property. The city also sold the group the land.

The effort to build the project started in 2004 by arts organizations such as Diverse Works, Main Street Theater and Suchu Dance that were tired of renting. Its founders envision it providing an affordable home for arts and cultural organizations."

These are going to be fantastic improvements to Bagby. Midtown held a community meeting last year where they showed a "virtual drive" down Bagby. Some intersections will have "bulb outs" that will make crossing the road on foot easier. There will also be little bridges over the "green sidewalk" parts of it for runoff filtering. I didn't realize it was starting next week. Thanks for the update.

http://docs.newquest.com/brochures/west-gray.pdf

looks like this will be the next big lot to go but it is sad to see that they are advertising a fast food place for the lots use. Hopefully that does not happen.

Have you heard anything new on this lot? With Post building towards it and the group of old houses on the its edge, it seems like it will only become more valuable.

Drove through the area last night and was surprised how fast things are coming along. The garage for Camden Phase II looks to be close to completion and Post Midtown is already up to 3 floors of framing (if not more, it was dark)...I'm ready to move in!

There's a sign up on the empty lot on West Gray across from Post Midtown Square, next to Cafe Layal mentioning a shopping center coming soon, with a rendering on the front. Does anyone have anymore info on this? I'll try to take a pic when I get some time.

UrbanLiving put up a sign at Jackson & Drew.

Any details? Nothing on their site yet. The block is about 50% filled in with townhomes, and 50% empty. I suppose this is a 3 or 4 townhouse development that will fill in half the remaining empty space.

Great news. But I can't predict anything being successful unless it involves getting rid of that Greyhound station as well. The Texaco is not the root of the problem, it's the Greyhound station.

It was a more peaceful and safer area when they used to have a drive-thru Taco Bell there years ago. It's gone downhill since everyone ran for the border

I happened to drive by yesterday, and I am not entirely sure they are demolishing the entire structure. They were very carefully demolishing the end cap near the car wash. The entire place is still operational, and there doesn't seem to be any signs of the tenants moving out any time soon. This is a great piece of property which has been severely underutilized for a long time. The greyhound station will need to disappear as well before any viable buyer considers developing a class A or B type project.

Guys, I don't know what to say about the rooftop bar, they told me it was going to be permanent but needed a few weeks to open. My friends are giving me a lot of s*** about this too, haha sorry. Maybe conditions/financing has changed.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where George is taken to an awesome secret club full of models (because he's dating one). After breaking up with her and trying to go back with Jerry, there is nothing there except for a meat storage room.

So, I was just sitting in my front yard and watched as a bum urinated on my neighbor's fence across the street. Just openly, in daylight, like no one was watching. Should I call HPD when this happens? Very frustrating.

Or you could yell at the guy and tell him not to come back.

Ridding midtown of the trash isn't just the job of police or the city, us residents have to make it known we don't want this garbage around. Got thoroughly harassed by a bum toting a "four loko" outside Komodo this weekend. He then proceeded to stand in the street and hold up traffic until he wandered off somewhere else . . . trash.

Yea, I live at Post, and there's always bums sitting/sleeping on the bench by the gate right next to Double Cross Lounge asking for money as i walk in/out and also bothering the people on the patio of the bar.
