I used to love it early on before I started listening to newer stuff, later on got back to listening to old school again because my mama was pretty hard on me about it.Gospel - Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Sounds of Blackness, Mary Mary and Smokie Norful.I also listen to a little bit of jazz and reggae as well.For radio: I listen to 97.9 The Box, Party 104.9, Majic 102.1, Power 97.5, and 1360 AM just to name a few. My kid calls, "The Arrow" an "oldies station." Would you perhaps like a world station? Then get sirius. Class Rock and Blues are my favorite, but I like all kinds. I wish I was more familiar with newer artist.. I feel like I'm missing out on some good music. They were really ahead of there time 79-80.I found out about the guys (3 piece) through a friend and fell in love with there quick beats and simplicity. They've recently hit a cult like stride even though they've been disbanded for 20 years. Let me just say that while I used to be hooked on Pandora, I have instead become completely addicted to Seeqpod instead. No, it doesn't reccommend artists or songs, but it lets me put together badass playlists and hunt down songs I haven't heard in years, all while unmolested by crass musical interlopers like Dokken showing up on my Alice In Chains station. Back on topic (why not?), I think it's easier to list the things which I refuse to listen to: radio stations in general, rap, hip-hop, "new" country music (especially country crossover), emo, "modern rock" or "adult alternative" or whatever the hell they call that mass-produced crap these days, any band that shows up on cheesy compilation CDs of music that was already overplayed on the radio (such as "Now That's What I Call Music" and "BuzzCuts") and anything where the band is deliberately misspelling their name in order to sound cooler than they actually are: Korn, Puddle of Mudd, Linkin Park, etc. It chills me to the bone to think that one day, those "compliation CDs" could be seen as a time capsule of popular music and a reflection of our culture at that moment. It should bother more people that this trashy, commercialized, materialistic, soulless music is so popular, as a society's music (along with its other art forms, such as architecture) is representative of their values on a larger scale. For the most part, true art has gone out of popular music, and you really have to do some searching to find music worth the CD it's recorded on these days. You're such a kidder...[fist nudges sheeats' chin] But one thing I wanted to share before this thread dies for another couple of years. I "went" to the John Mayer concert on Saturday. There's a nice sized park just west of the Pavilions and I just chilled and listened to the concert there. Lots of people did, actually. Some speakers towards the stage actually point somewhat out of the place and right into the park. The only thing missing was the visual. It was a good concert. You can also hear it bouncing off the walls at Market Street. The Beatles, Zepp -- hell, even Lynyrd Skynyrd -- were cool without trying.
