kjb434
This survey just shows of how little importance the newspaper industry has become. The total circulation of any one of these papers is extremly small compared to other much more efficient new outlets.

arche_757
I for one enjoy reading the Chron (and Dallasnews - since the rockets were playing them - until tonight!) online.I doubt the circulation includes online readers, but it would be interesting to see how many people used to read the paper in 1990 before the internet exploded onto the world. lockmat
Anyone know what the chron is ranked for online newspapers? I found a Nielsen list from a couple years ago that ranked it like 5th or 6th.

barracuda
It's ranked number 10 in circulation according to this site: http://www.infoplease.com/ipea/A0004420.htmlPretty sad that the only major newspaper in America's fourth-largest city only manages number 10 in circulation. Denver is a small city compared to Houston, yet their newspaper has a greater circulation. Goes to show you just how awful the Houston Chronicle is. Their unambitious news stories are really just window dressing for all the advertising that makes up most of the paper.

Trae
Denver is also the only major newspaper for a pretty large geographic region.

Too bad we can't find one that's at the latest a year old. I'm wondering this b/c I heard on the radio that the chron was number one. That's probably not true, but I'd still like to know. They're in the buisness to make money. They're no different than the local tv news.Filter out the bad and take the so so stuff I guess...

In order to get the results, you have to buy "the book," which is why you rarely see them published anywhere for free.
wernicke
I like Chron.com. What other newspaper websites are better? The New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times... note the use of color scheme, clean design, font choice, subheads, photos (Chron.com frequently doesn't bother to post images that accompany the story in print), less visually obtrusive advertising...
