HAIF-HD2 Upgrade

OK, New Posts and everything else should work now. Here's what I've noticed that's new:

  • In My Settings you can choose how New Posts behaves -- does it show only new stuff, or all new stuff since you last visit (old HAIF style).
  • In My Settings you can choose to have the results of New Post searches displayed like a forum (old HAIF style) or a list (new style).
  • The front page sidebar now has a "What's on your mind?" box so you can update your status without having to go to your profile settings.

is the font smaller? i like it

I didn't change it, but that doesn't mean it's not different. I think it's too small, but I think I'll keep it this size so it's a little more friendly for people on netbooks and cheap laptops.

  • Users can now subtitle themselves. For example, under my avatar it currently says "Glad to be done with another upgrade." Access from My Settings > Profile > Member Title

Nice, I gave myself a promotion :P, now off to dinner.

  • You can now list your AIM address in your contact information on your profile.
  • If you have an AIM address filled in on your profile, it will appear next to your posts and users can click on the link to send you a message.

  • Ditto now for MSN Messenger. I don't have MSN, so if someone could test this for me, that would be aces.
  • Ditto now for Yahoo! Messenger. I don't have Y!, so if someone could test this for me, that would be spiffy.
  • Ditto now for Jabber and other XMPP clients. I don't have Jabber, so if someone could test this for me, that would be swell.
  • Ditto now for Skype.
  • Ditto now for Twitter.

I know some people are going to lose their minds over this, but let's try it anyway...

  • User reputation is now displayed in threads.

You may now lose your minds.

Now Just make the "reputation" a searchable item for people to sort in the member data base and THEN all hell will break lose.

So what are all the verbal descriptions, poor/bad/neutral/excellent?

Yah.. don't like it. Can see this leading to those with bad reps not posting anymore. Too in your face. It's one thing for someone reading a thread to click on the profile of someone they may disagree with to see what others think... its something else to have advertised with every post you make that nobody likes you or ever agrees with you. Might lead to people seeing red, and just instantly glossing over/ignoring.

There are certain people i know that when they post, I know there will be a slim chance of me respecting the post, or agreeing with the post, even before reading it.... but they should at least have a fair chance to make their impression on new people that join. They should also have a fair chance in changing the minds of those that have rated them poorly, if they so desire... i think this will be much harder to do if everyone else is constantly reminded of their bad rep score.

Also.. hate the new puke green.

Anyone else agree or disagre?

Also.. hate the new puke green.

That was chosen to make the rating box less obvious. In its old colors it commanded too much attention.

I completely agree with Highway6. Furthermore, I question the validity of a rep scoring system based on people's approval of individual posts. If that system is used to prevent "me too" or "f___ you" posts, that's fine. But to have it all aggregate seems like a method that lacks validity. And to rub HAIFers' noses in their level of popularity is just asinine. Besides, don't we already have a user ratings system? Redundancy?

The old orange-yellow stars worked well design-wise and drew attention because they were a complimentary color to HAIFy blue. If you want something not to stand out, try using various shades of blues and grays. You might even get away with shades of blue that have a tad bit of purple or green, but where those aren't the dominant hues.

I also don't like this feature that you enabled allowing people to give themselves a title above the user rank graphic. We already have "status" settings and the ability to use sigs. This seems redundant and is also oddly-placed. Just because we have the capability to enable the use of features does not mean that we necessarily should.

I wonder, are all these cute new features the reason that thread pages will not load, and sometimes the entire site freezes up? This has been going on for nearly 24 hours on multiple computers, so I know it is not my computer or ISP. I also note that crunch and others are having the same problem. Having neat features on a forum that will not load is akin to having GPS on a car that won't start. Just sayin'...

I was just now able to view the entire Ghandi thread. Many of the others are now loading, but only partially. Just for grins, I'm going to run Firefox and see if the situation improves. If not, back to shopping and porn. ;)

y'all PM me if I miss something juicy.

edit: if figured IE 6 at work was the culprit, but at home I'm on 7 and it's never given me any grief. Ding, firefox is done downloading.....

No, it's more fundamental than that. But thanks for guessing.

As stated in another thread, if you want me to diagnose the problem you've got to give me more to go on. Fortunately, other HAIFers aren't just complaining, they're working with me to help track down the problem.

I also note that crunch and others are having the same problem.

I noted that, too.

Again, your Monday morning quarterbacking is way off. But at least others are being helpful. Just sayin'...

Que ?? Are these something i have control over or are they bestowed at some point ?

DotCom Donor: none

BonusGroup1: Regular

Are you seeing those on the regular forum pages, or in your profile settings?

Also, I for one have had zero haify loading problems today.

You must be using something other than Internet Exploder. HAIF is tested against Firefox and Safari and experiences no problems at all. Freakin' Microsoft strikes again.

I had problems all day using IE 6 at work, especially using the New Posts listing feature. At home, Mozilla Fire Fox seems to work just fine.

New Posts isn't a bug. You just have to tell it to display the list the old way. Click on your name, then My Settings and you'll see at the bottom of the page a place where you can change it to the old method. Just set the "View New Content Method" to "Show me all content that I have not read."

And be sure to click the [save Changes] button to save the setting.

User on-line in its current position is pretty distracting when trying to read a user's name.

Can this move to above or below the avatar?

I don't have a user online indicator. Can you post a screen shot for me?
