Urbannizer
Hurricane Ike has claimed another victim: http://blogs.houston...l_galveston.php Where's the nearest bowling alley now, I wonder? The nearest bowling alley now is in Texas City, I thought Island Bowl was closed already. I use to go there before Ike. Sad. Edited July 7, 2009 by UpuPUp! plumber2
Landry's will probably use the site (including the adjoining Sea Horse site) for remote or overflow parking for Pleasure Pier patrons. It's too far to walk, but a shuttle service would work if needed.
hindesky
"Among the many indignities Hurricane Ike wrought on Galveston was robbing the island of its lone bowling alley. To this day, the white concrete husk of the onetime Island Bowl sits tucked just off Seawall Boulevard, a social wound inflicted by the 2008 storm that never quite healed. A new alley with 14 lanes is set to open next month adjacent to the Galveston Primetime movie theater on the far west end of town. Prida has also partnered with the locally owned Papa’s Pizza to expand the Primetime menu beyond standard multiplex offerings like popcorn and hot dogs to include pizza rolls, muffulettas and sandwiches. Pizza will be available too, of course, either by the pie or the slice, while the bar will serve wine, cocktails and six kinds of draft beer." https://www.chron.com/gulf-coast/article/galveston-bowling-alley-opening-18499031.php
k5jri radio
Looks like the new bowling alley adjacent to the movie theater complex at 8902 Seawall Blvd is about 4 miles WSW from the now derelict building at 3424 Seawall Blvd. that once housed the Island Bowl prior to Hurricane Ike. From the intersection of 61st St. and Seawall Blvd. (6100 Seawall Blvd.), its about 2.1 miles WSW.
