WillowBend56
Anyone else recall the large numbers of railroad passenger cars that Judge Hofheinz stored at the SP depot and other locations around Houston? This would have been in the early 70s and perhaps the late 60s.Story was that he intended to develop a hotel from these cars out near the Astrodome, something like the Chattanooga Choo-Choo Hotel idea. Some cars were scrapped, others sold off. Some of the scrapped ones, I think, were sunk in the Gulf to provide artificial fish sanctuaries.
redraider
I yes I remember he was going to use them for a hotel right accross the street from the Astrodome. I think a few of the cars were used just down the street for a Steak and Ale resturant.

It was really close to where that Smash Burger is now.
