The two main sticking points revolved around other items: a proposal that would shutter golf operations at city courses that lose more than $300,000 a year and the 1.6 percent cut to council budgets. The two issues took up nearly four hours of debate.

That's a big chunk of money for golf. My first thought was that public money should not be spent on golf, but then I remembered the little league I grew playing was a county park, too.

And should the chronicle writer have used the word "lose?" It's obviously not meant to make money, right? Maybe they should have said it "costs" $300k to run/year.

Also, is the budget report available online at the city website?
