Thinking about this some more, not many skyscrapers have 25' window walls without anything tying them back to a slab in the middle.

It would be eerie to have those mullions creaking in front of you in a tropical storm.

That penthouse is really cool but practically speaking, you're gonna need a lot of drapes and thousands a month to keep the place under 80 degrees in the summer months.

Im pretty sure the building is going to be well insulated. I don't think it's they used regular glass windows for the building. Think of the buildings in UAE, Qatar, Saudi, etc, where temps can reach 120 degrees, these buildings aren't made with average glass.

Are they planning on keeping that giant surface parking lot forever? Feels kinda pointless to build a skinny highrise if you're still gonna have a huge footprint like that...

Depends on what Phase II, if its ever built, will ultimately look like.

I was told that eventually an acre of that parking lot be converted into a green space/park that sits between the current pavilion and the future mixed-use that will be built in the back where the sales center is currently.

Interesting! Green space is always a nice addition! :) Hopefully they can move on to Phase II. The HAIF Penthouse notwithstanding, I wonder how sales are going here?

Sales appear to be going very well.  Per a recent Chronicle article, there were only 20 units left (out of, I think, 115).

Are they opening up the garage for the gym parking? The lack of parking led me to decide not to get a gym membership there..it was a zoo

Supposed to have opened it up now, or soon. They said it would be "early September". I've seen vehicles go in and out, but they still had some cones semi-blocking the entrance, so I don't know if it's really officially open or not.

I spoke with someone on their design team a few weeks ago that said they are working on Phase 2's design right now. Who knows what that really means from a start date, but I was somewhat surprised considering where the real estate market is right now...

It's a good time to do this type of work that doesn't cost a lot of money while you wait for the construction capital markets to get better.

If someone can afford the penthouse then the their power bill will be no issue

^^^ my goodness, this new LED lighting design is certainly adding an all-new level of POSHNESS to this burgeoning development.  the money or overall budget here is obviously no real object.  as each week passes, this development is looking more and more luxurious... WOW!

^^^ my gosh, is it really that bright?  how on earth, will patrons get any sleep?  this simply cannot be real...

It's a condo so I assume if it will bother the owners enough they'll get the HOA to dial it down.

@hindesky yep. The news regarding Maven at Thompson Houston Hotel was posted in this very thread back in July. Also, this location isn't just a coffee shop, it's a cafe.

Earlier this week, Houston Chronicle's paywall-free site Chron reported on The Thompson / Thompson Houston's forthcoming coffee shop.

Named Maven / Maven Coffee Co., the coffee shop and cafe will be located in the lobby of the hotel. It's one of several food and beverage options opening in the hotel. The coffee shop is from Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and Juan Carlos Martinez de Aldecoa (Eximus Coffee).

Located in The Allen mixed-use development, Maven aims to open in November (at least that's what's indicated on Maven's website and social media).

Building permits lists the address for Maven as 1711 Allen Parkway Floor 1. However, the address on Thompson Houston's website lists 1701 Allen Parkway.

And the rendering was also shared here in July...
