Another Bar On Washington Ave.

I'm thinking more upscale burlesque than trailer park bikini bar (no offense to my trailer park friends). If the entertainers have strategically placed clothing, then no SOB is required. Keep in mind, the Pussycat Dolls have made millions by being "strippers with clothes on."

As far as the lot near CVS goes... I'll have to do some digging and see what I can come up with.

Oh, I do so love America and our faux morals. It is so much more fascinating than reality. :)

Traffic looks horrible around 2am. So do all the people trashing, parking and pissing in my yard. It is no fun to live anywhere close to washington anymore on the weekends.

But is there prostitution in the yard also? You need to talk to those Garden Oaks people with the bus stop problem, see how that sign worked out for them. Or put up a huge electric fence, with sniper towers and a moat with gators. And children of the corn.

and what's the latest on Taps? I was told that the guy that owns Kobain's was putting this one in.

They have a fence up around where it will supposedly be (5120 Washington @ Reinerman - where the alcohol permit was posted a few months ago), and have been working on it more and more... I'm hearing "early 2009" for it to open.

Also, next door has a fence up too - "A&J Auto Repair" @ 5102 Washington - it's supposed to become the "Pub on Washington" - not sure if they are one in the same, or 2 separate places.

Either way, someone cleared the lot a month-ish ago across Roy from these two buildings - I'm thinking/hoping that will be parking for the bars. They will definitely need parking!

Other new places:

Block 21 - 2420 Washington Ave (open)

NOx - 4701 Nett St (dance club - early 2009)

Rare Bar - 700 Durham (not sure when it opens...)

BRC - a "gastro-pub" - Shepherd, near Washington (Spring 2009)

Pub on Washington will be "Pub Fiction"#2, same owners

NE Corner of Roy and Washington will be a parking a lot for the time being

i sure hope washington ave doesnt become the next richmond strip.

rice millitary is a great area today but how many people want to buy $350k+ homes with that many bars? some can get use to the trains but loud, obnoxious drunks from around 10 pm until 2:30? compound that with parking in the neighborhood, on narrow streets, and minimal street lights. it's a recipe for hit and runs, trash in front yards, public urination, and such..

and as a side note, i know someone who recently went to pearl bar. when she left with a friend (another female), the bouncer requested a security guard escort them to their cars. said there have been a couple assaults and it was a preventative measure.

While I agree with your statement 100%, I do want to add that before moving to Houston I used to live in Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans. And yes, I had to deal with the drunks at 2am who thought it was cool to smash bottles on the street. And as far as drunks go, Washington Ave will never compare to the Quarter. However, set aside the annoying habits of the non-residents, it was still a fantastic place to live and the positives far outweighed the negatives.

So, I guess all I'm saying is if Washington Ave becomes a popular place for the right reasons (define 'right' in your own terms) then the residents will tolerate a small negative in exchange for an overwhelming positive.

was supposed to be just around thanksgiving....now supposed to be just before Xmas..... im betting after new year

Thanks, I'm betting the same.

Sounds like Washington is well on its way to becoming a major rival to Austin's 6th street.

I would rather it rival Austin's 4th street.

Well, perhaps. If Houston had a live music scene (and venues) that was even remotely as big or supported as Austin's. And if there were sidewalks. And mobile food vendors. And if Washington Ave itself a whole lot shorter. If there were late night, cool retail.

I think it's far more likley that Washington Ave will one day rival Richmond Ave: hopping for a time, then dead after the party moves elsewhere.
