Another Bar On Washington?

margokorin

Recommended Posts

Two months have passed since the last post and unfortunately this project continues to languish. Dead trees were planted (yes, planted dead) along Washington after the full set was repeatedly blown over for weeks by the spring storm winds. Now all of the trees, including the dead ones they planted, were removed. The parking lot has been marginally cleaned up, but overall, the whole thing is still a mess! This was supposed to be Black Orchid Gastro Bar. Per Swamplot back in February:

"As of January a year ago, chef Michael Sanguinetti was slated to be at the helm of Black Orchid’s $75-ish nightly tasting menu. Culturemaps reports that Sanguinetti’s other Washington Ave project closed for restructuring last summer due to conceptual disagreements between Sanguinetti and the owner."

Don't hold your breath!

That one might deserve its own thread wherever it subsequently is. Also, someone tell that guy with the baby stroller that his tires might be flat! image.png.315ff38d33e2f02eaabd9dc950f24e17.png

Nah, the baby is so heavy, the stroller sinks into the pavement.

5-story structure proposed somewhere along Washington.

Where did you find this? It looks too good to be true, lol... Trying to think where that could fit, especially with the big garage in the back... I'd love to see it replace the former commercial/industrial building at the northwest corner of Washington and TC Jester!

The rendering came from Identity Architects. I wish people would include the source of images and other info when posting these things to the forum. It is helpful to know. It's also why when I post anything, as annoying as it may be, I include that and anything else for others.

The rendering didn't include an address for the Revival off Washington development.

Also this structure should have its own thread since it's not a bar on the 5100 block of Washington Ave, the topic of this thread.

Thanks for the info! That would be a welcome addition to Washington Ave if and when it ends up there! Seems Bottled Blond is possibly a goner - no activity in many months on former pawn shop site, so that corner of Washington/Durham would be amazing too!

Your link didn't work, but I was able to find... Unfortunate that none of their project renderings have any detail (location, status, builder, etc). Maybe they're all conceptual?

Got some info from my friend in the restaurant industry (we did discuss this while drinking, so my deets may be a little off)...

*Pub on Washington - 5102 Washington - it IS from the Pub Fiction people, but they want it to be a little different than Pub Fiction (I really hope so... I really don't want a frat party in my neighborhood every night!). This one seems to be coming right along - there are people there all the time.

*Busty LaRoue's (the smaller building) - 5120 Washington - Formerly Taps House of Beers (that apparently fell through), and they are having some problems now getting BL's off the ground too... Hrm. She's not really sure what this place will be either.

And on a side note... I really dig The Usual on TC Jester. It's what Pearl Bar was before the trendies took over. Great beer/wine/liquor selection and friendly bartenders. Not too sure about the Thursday/Saturday night karaoke... but whatevs, it's a nice neighborhood hangout!

Here is what's moving into the Taps of Beer space at 5120 Washington Ave in Houston: The Sugar Room, a bar from So Clutch Group (Concrete Cowboy, Clutch Bar).

I don't have photos of the renovation work yet, but here is more about it from Sugar Room's website:

Donuts, Drinks, & Events

Sugar Room will be a bar with cocktails, I presume. It will also double as a donut shop.

Here is what's moving to 5102 Washington Ave, part of the row of bars on the 5100 block of Washington Ave: The Sporting Club.

The Sporting Club moves into the space where Atlas Pub was located. The space was also Galway Hooker, and before that, Giulietta Sociale and Ei8ht.

This is another bar from the So Clutch Group.

More about the Sporting Club (from the Instagram of a co-owner of So Clutch Group, posted in January):

Coming soon to Washington Avenue: A unique all day experience featuring an open air kitchen, 30 foot retractable roof, patio gaming, elevated cocktails, local beer, and home to the players.

So Clutch Group is doing behind-the-scenes work for the Sugar Room's website. This is their donut shop and bar at  5120 Washington Ave in Houston.

The website shows the splash page, but saw this page for their donut shop when messing around with the url. Here's the screenshot:

The Sporting Club is located at 5102 Washington Ave. It's part of the row of bars on the 5100 block of Washington Ave. This replaces Atlas Pub. The space was also Galway Hooker, and before that, Giulietta Sociale and Ei8ht

This comes from their updated website that includes a site for the Houston location.

The Sugar Room at 5120 Washington Ave is open. This is a dual concept with a bakery operating on one side and a speakeasy bar on the other.

Contrary to the posts above, there isn't a donut shop. Instead, So Clutch Group partnered with Sweet (Tour Suite). Sweet is a dessert shop and coffee shop. The Washington Avenue branch offers an abbreviated menu.

The cocktail bar and lounge is known as Sugar Room. It's a completely transformation of the bar before it.
