ProHouston
So, what happened to this joke of a restaurant???Roger Clemens' Rocket Sports Grill He had enough sense to realize it was a bad business move after he dissed his Houston fans and bolted to the comforts ($$$) of NYC. Pumapayam
He had enough sense to realize it was a bad business move after he dissed his Houston fans and bolted to the comforts ($$$) of NYC.Then why issue a press release and such if nothing is firm?Glad he left, we don't need wishy washy people in Houston announcing stuff and then cancelling it.

dalparadise
Isn't all the area around and on the Memorial City property redeveloping? This isn't a mall aquarium. I think it's part of the larger vision for the mixed use development of MC. There will be highrise residential, office, medical, new open-air retail, restaurants and plazas. I think the vision is to try to integrate the streets into the surrounding area, too, so it's not just a shopping center in a parking lot, like so many "town(e) cent(re)s" are these days. I think the developers have their sights set on a mini Uptown.

wildthangjim
I was in the mall today and the Rocket Sports Grill looks like it will be open soon. The TV's are installed and the framed jerseys are on the walls. It's on the west side of the mall between Old Navy and the entrance to the Cinemark. With Roger returning to the Yankees and all the steroid news, I'm somewhat surprised this is going ahead. I didn't actually see any mention to Roger on the signs, it's just "Rocket" now. I wonder if they will have HGH on the menu?

Mark F. Barnes
And all this got started with "Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant" in NYC. Was there for 40 years. Jeebus
I wonder if Roger will be allowing 11 year old kids to take his picture.Yeah right.. After the ribbon cutting you'll never see him in there again. He'll probably only go back there to use it to host private functions. Ultimately however, it will go belly-up a la Planet Hollywood and become some other token chain restaurant, probably in a buy/bail-out from Landry's no less. NewMND
Any rumors as to what the skywalk is gonna end up in? Are they going to be building a department store of some sort (maybe a Nordstroms?) or are they going to build space for more smaller retail stores, in that grassy area? Or is this the area they were talking about buidling an aquarium?
kjb434
They have been toying around with lots of ideas to replace the surface parking. Obviously and surface parking removed will have to be replaced with garages. The skywalk that is built will eventually connect to the Mall in some way. Currently it will just access the surface parking. There were plans at one time for an Aquarium in that corning of the mall by I-10 and Gessner. The developer is trying make the area a cohesive urban development. Of course having the Hospital attached to the mall helps when you get stabbed by some of the crowd I've seen there.

NancyB
I can confirm that the crosswalk from the "hospital/hotel side" of Gessner to the "mall side" is still a crosswalk to no where. I just hope it doesn't stay like this indefinitely with the economic downturn starting to affect Houston now. After all, why build more retail when there are vacancies in the mall itself? So depressing. Hope I'm wrong.

Houston19514
That's be nice. Maybe get a Nordstrom to move into Target's place?I don't think Target is moving anywhere. That "Target" sign appears to be on a wall that currently exists. It would appear to a be sign more along the lines of "This is the way to Target." (There simply isn't space between the current end of the skywalk and the current building to fit in all of that open-air space shown in the rendering PLUS a Target store.)
