The Funkadelics are coming!

Recommended Posts

Here are the very popular names that come to mind:

Rick James (well we know about him)

The Funkadelics

Parliament

Bootsy

Cameo

Dr Funkenstein

Rufus & Chaka Chan

Con Funk Shun

These all used to tour in big rock fests in the 70's and as the music changed they seemed to fade away?

can you name more?

and what became of them???

talm bout:

George Duke

Quincy Jones

Herbie Hancock

Edwin Birdsong

Slave

edit:

I could go on and on, I like to go to 1/2 price books on weekends and dig for old funk records

not only is funk the basis of hip-hop but also rap and later house music of the 90's

check this blog for trax late 70's-80's

We once used to really groove to Herbie Hancocks - Headhunters album it was very innovative.

and yeah, what became of Slave or was it Slade?

I also forgot to add

Maze

and who can forget Peaches & Herb!

I think most of these bands toured or appeared at the annual Kool Jazz Festivals then? and I think Magic 102 and some other station would always advertise?

now Shake that Groove Thing! :D

Are Earth, Wind and Fire funk? Because I love Earth, Wind and Fire.

They were great but really too mainstream. The ones I noted at the beginning were more of the super funk/grind big time ultra partying groups. :D

Many of them were featured on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, The Midnight Special and most of all Soul Train!
