memebag
They didn't fade away; their samples formed the bedrock of hip hop.I saw P Funk All Stars at some little strip center club on Richmond in the late 80s or early 90s. Great show.

KimberlySayWhat
I love '70s music, but not so much funk.
NenaE
I think I might have seen some of these on the Midnight Special. Earth Wind & Fire, Average White Band. Soul Train comes to mind, as well. That was a long time ago. I like 70'S R & B more.

I also forgot to add Maze and who can forget Peaches & Herb! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4Dapf_NKcE I think most of these bands toured or appeared at the annual Kool Jazz Festivals then? and I think Magic 102 and some other station would always advertise? now Shake that Groove Thing! KimberlySayWhat
Are Earth, Wind and Fire funk? Because I love Earth, Wind and Fire.
Vertigo58
Are Earth, Wind and Fire funk? Because I love Earth, Wind and Fire. They were great but really too mainstream. The ones I noted at the beginning were more of the super funk/grind big time ultra partying groups. Many of them were featured on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, The Midnight Special and most of all Soul Train! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_Train
