Downtown Skyline Update

Thanks, I was thinking it might be worth doing something from the north where you could basically see all of these minus the Chevron building.

that would actually be fantastic. like from 59 driving south, just north of downtown? then you could include the Marriott Marquis too. (this is a terrible photo btw, im not proposing you use this one, just an example of the angle)

I, for one, would like to see the southeast view from the Gulf freeway. Our skyline looks far denser from that angle...

thats one of my favorite angles as well, due to the density like you say, but i just checked out some pictures i have from that angle and i dont think you would be able to see much of anything except the new Chevron tower from that angle, and Marriott Marquis. it seems like Hines tower would barely stick out, and the International Tower would be almost completely blocked off?

I agree with TowerSpotter, it looks great. I'm awful with photoshop so I'm not dogging you in the least. I just love how rough the original actual image was to begin with.

Don't worry I was just giving you a hard time.

I'm having trouble finding a quality up to date picture of downtown from the N/NE so if anyone has one out there I'd be happy to do another version if you can provide a good base picture.

if only this car werent in the picture...

heres an alright one if you cropped out the highway. OLD though, dated May 2001. it would need some work to be updated.. 1500 Louisiana is in the distance being topped off. Missing BG of course and all the activity around Discovery Green, if you were planning on putting the Marriott Marquis in the shot.

heres a good north east angle where you might be able to include the Marriott with Hines and International Tower. will Skanksas tower be visible from this angle (i know its rather "short"), not sure if it would be behind one of the taller buildings or not.

I find it pretty awesome that you can see the Williams Tower in this shot.

Thats funny. I don't live in Houston, I live on the outskirts of Houston so I'm not really familiar with the skyline too much, but when I drive through some parts of the city I end up seeing buildings that I thought were on the other side of 59 into the museum district but end up being on the opposite side.

I originally posted a "What-if" version of the skyline featuring the 609 Main tower in that thread, but have been adding to the original model I saved in Sketchup.

These screen shots include 609 Main, Chevron, Skyhouse, International Tower, Capitol Tower, Marriott Marquis, Five Allen Center and the pair of new hotels planned for the Convention Center area. The proportions are based on tips and information from the posts on this site.

Here we go...

Well done Channel2...I was going to do something similar but it looks like you covered it for me.

Here is a before and after shot using one of the photos cloud713 provided.

The perspectives don't exactly line up correctly and I had to try and compensate despite buildings being flipped around but hopefully this gives another idea to the possibility for the future.

I realized I could squeeze in the Chevron building too...but for whatever reason I can't edit my post.  Am I the only one having this issue right now?

Anyway, not trying to pump my post count up...but here's the updated shot.

these pictures make me really hope that 5AC undergoes a major redesign before ( if ) it gets built.. its way too prominent when your driving down 45 and sticks out away from the rest of the skyline. maybe some set backs and a spire or something if they want to keep the overall building close to the same proportions?

i was just looking through these renderings again noticed you can see 6 new buildings in this picture. pretty neat. will the new 38 story Texaco redevelopment tower be visible from these angles too or will it be hidden behind Hines and International Tower?

i wonder how tall Hines Market Square residential tower will be.

I dont think the texaco building is going to be visible from this angle or maybe the last 1 to 5 floors will be visible.

You're right. I tried plugging in a building for that section of land between 500' - 550' feet, and even then, it doesn't stand out unless you're looking at it from the Southwest (specifically the 'Midtown view, and even then you have to know where to look) or the east, (Dynamo / Minute Maid), North (UH/D) Northeast (Eastex Freeway). Those latter three shots would give you the best shot of seeing it in the skyline.

Fans of BG Group Place from that last angle might not be too happy though, since at that height and perspective it starts to block out the tower to an extent.

i knew the Chevron tower looked a little short in the photoshop. word is it will be around 830 feet, or about 100' taller than the Continental tower. you can tell in this rendering. the towers are standing next to each other and this perspective is a few hundred feet in the air too.

chevron-506x600.jpg

i also never noticed a height increase on the Hines tower in the photoshop after they changed it from 41 to 49 stories? i never noticed it change, but thinking about it, it looks to be around what 757' would look like, being further back than/compared to JP morgan.

thanks for doing this, i dont mean to nit pick. im just a huge skyscraper dork and it really helps give a visualization of what to expect.

I think this is first time the rendering for 5AC has been used correctly. It would reflect the older brown building from this angle, and not be transparent like the east looking renderings show. So, Bravo Brijon. Although the Leaning Tower of Texaco looks a little too high. Ha! I slipped in an insult behind a compliment. Take that.

Sorry, I'm just jealous that my photoshop involes cut & paste in Paint. Works well for grainy pictures...
