Jdorfma1
My parents lost power about an hour ago at 290 and 1960!I'm 25 miles closer to the storm and i have everything except my HD channels... classic.
Gooch
Ike's close to landfall. The northwest side looks nastier on both radar and satellite, but that's probably cyclical.Radar can't see through the heavy rain on this side of it. If you look at the Lake Charles radar the back side looks much stronger than it does on the IAH radar. It doesn't have to "look" through the eyewall. That said, IKE took a big gulp of dry air over the last two hours looking at the water vapor sattelite animation... (good for us). Htowngirl
They just said there's flooding east of Bay Area Blvd. So, Brookforest may be flooding soon, but not yet. I think they said "East Bay Area Blvd" i.e. the other side of I-45 (Friendswood)... at least I hope that's the case! Thanks for the update, though... thinking the power will go out here (Rice Military) pretty soon...
cottonmather0
A little wind in The Westbury. No rain. Power flicked once a while back. Steady ever since. The Hennesy supply is holding up so I haven't had to touch the lesser brands. The future Mrs. Bag is a little wigged, but we're passing the time watching Frisky Dingo and real estate porn. The love child is safe in The Heights. We got to swim earlier and explore the meaning of the saying "may hay while the sun shines". Her tooth fell out, so the tooth fairy may have to brave 100+ mph winds. Meme, did you have to reinforce the door that you use to keep the future Mrs Bag locked up inside the house? Man, the wind is really starting to howl now. I am amazed that I still have electricity and Directv and internet at this point.
sunsets
All still OK here in Woodland Heights. Just small limbs down, and the power hasn't even flickered. I expect we'll lose it at some point tonight. I should try and get some sleep.Anyone have any info for Texas City? My houseguests are from there, and they're worried about their property. I appreciate her concern, but my MIL needs to stop frantically texting me - nothing's happening yet!!!
memebag
Meme, did you have to reinforce the door that you use to keep the future Mrs Bag locked up inside the house? Nah, it was cheaper to hobble the future Mrs. Bag. Man, the wind is really starting to howl now. I am amazed that I still have electricity and Directv and internet at this point. Comcast has the low analog channels, then no digital channels, except for local HD and TV Land. Weird.
Htowngirl
Electricity just went out in Rice Military (Shepherd @ Washington)... still have internet though!ETA: It's raining now... also, there is still one house with power.
editor
Photographs from earlier today by Chambers County OEM. Actually, I've changed my mind. I don't want to bog this thread down and have people not see the updates, especially since so many people's internet connections are so fragile right now.Use this thread instead to post your Hurricane Ike pictures. YakuzaIce
Winds are really starting to pick up here in SW Houston. No rain yet. I heard cable is out in Sharpstown 3, but internet and power are still up.
editor
Comcast has the low analog channels, then no digital channels, except for local HD and TV Land. Weird.Sounds like either one (or more) of their dishes got knocked out, or it's going through rain fade. In the good old analog days you'd just get a little sparkle. Now in the digital era if things aren't perfect, it's no TV for you!
desirous
Anyone in the downtown Houston area? How is it? Still ok in Spring...heavy windDowntown is doing fine. jayshoota
In the Heights, not too bad here yet. Directv and power still going. Was really windy earlier (knocked over the wooden fence across form us) but it is actually kind of calm now. Lights are flickering as I write this... westguy
Still have power. Not a flicker, which is expected with the secret underground bunker beneath me. We might be getting the powerful sustained winds now. I can't tell because they keep dropping off.
