RedScare
And nary a peep from Mayor Bill White. I guess old Ed told him who's boss. You mean other than the press conference that was televised with Ed Emmett standing next to him?At 10 pm, they have the center track crossing High Island and heading northwest...which pretty much puts it running through downtown Houston. Winds currently at 60 mph.http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_a...l?3day#contents

HtownWxBoy
High Island was hit by a hurricane last year. I bet most of you don't even remember that. That's pretty much what this storm is going to do... except it is nowhere near as strong. Notice how different the weather is west of the eye as opposed to east of the eye... that's why all that needs to happen is the center go just east of you for you to get hardly any rain. Up to 60 mph. Why would it move northeast of Houston? Because it's moving a bit more to the northwest as opposed to west or west-northwest... and the center redeveloped a bit further to the north. The winds are lighter, but the rain may be heavier.

MidtownCoog
Don't play silly Red. You and I both know that Emmett now offically has domain over White. It's his county, not White's. And guess who spoke first...They both sounded like fools. Emmett has "Pods" and White had "boats". Lord help us all when the big one hits.

Are you going to accuse Mayor White of being Houston's biggest celebrity next?FWIW, I watched the news conference live this afternoon. I watched the two officials walk onstage. I watched White walk to the podium first, with Emmett at his side, speaking second. As if it matters. Each official is the elected head of their individual political subdivision. Neither has domain over the other. Personally, I appreciate that the two work together to deal with the regions issues.I feel dirty having even stepped into your politically charged sewer to respond to your moronic post. But, this is what conservatives have been reduced to, I guess.
MidtownCoog
You obviously forget the Eckeles vs. White battle during the Rita evacuation disaster and the Katrina victim recruitment drive. My sources say it's not a nice relationship today either. Ignore the real world all you want. It's all political.
MetroMogul
Ah yes, Humberto. It was a minor hurricane and they basically had us in the "direct hit" path as they do with this much weaker storm. I remember about 6pm the night Humberto was supposed to hit getting a Houston press and snuggling up with my girlfriend for what I thought was going to be a romantic night of thunderstorms. Well, many hours and some drizzle later, I see a radar image of a huge storm next to the city, and nary a rain band heading our way. The next morning the sun was out.And I was disgusted at Neil Frank being dragged out to sensationalize a non-event. He tried his hardest to heat up this story by making comparisons to Alicia. I know he wants the big one before he kicks the bucket but sheesh.

RedScare
AHEM.... The eye is not where it appears from looking at the rain bands. It is still projected to make landfall at High Island. PuroAztlan
Yet another storm that comepletely misses us.FAIL.I like how all the local news channels act like every storm is the hurricane of 1900. AM 740 just had some guy from FEMA on the air (lets remind them of katrina!) telling the Houston area how we should prepare for disastor. Yea. From a weak tropical strom in Beaumont that's gonna give us some rain.

And, we have the media to thank for it. It has shut down commerce here in Houston today, with really no reason for it. Traffic was at 25% at best. Our parking lot at our office building is empty, and it's not even raining.

westguy76
Just an update for those not local. I know looking at the radar it looks like we are getting pounded, however here on the west side of town we are getting a light drizzle since 7:00 AM this morning with 4 mph gusts. (I am at Westheimer and Wilcrest in the Westchase district)Anyone else care to update the action where they are at?
